The film industry is an industry that has many demands from its audience. The writers of modern movies have a great task to ensure that their story lines are not recycled or reused. It is apparent that the writer gives the viewers a new story and stay in line with the topic that they decided to write about, in order to keep the audience interested. Films are made in the genres types, the type of genre the movie is, determines the audience the writer is facilitating. “Genre or category, and genre films are usually easily recognizable as part of a certain genre. It is because they tend to usefamiliar story formulas, character types, settings, and iconography (visual imagery with symbolic implications), all of which lead viewers to have certain expectations about what the movie will be like before actually watching it.” (as quoted Goodykoontz, B., & Jacobs, C. P. 2014) Musicals will always remain as classic to film lovers both young and old.
The songs in musicals often have you singing over and over again when it is a catchy tune. When dance moves are incorporated with the musical it makes it more interesting and no matter how many times you watch it always looks new. I chose musical type genre film and the film I chose is “The Sound of Music (1965)”. The main actors of the musical Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, it was an adaptation of the 1959 Broadway musical The Sound of Music, composed by Richard Rodgers with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II.
