Topic: Geography Review
I. Using Geography to study history
· Maps are major tools for geography. They also help explain historical developments
· Historical maps also explain the Actions of certain people and why they did such things
· Other maps help explain why different people did different things with land
· The reason Historians use geography is because where they live or the environment that surrounds them affects people.
II. Five themes of geography
· Locations: To talk about a place on a map located. Absolute location is being able to do that. Geographers invented longitude and latitude to make it possible. Relative location is the relationship between two places.
· Place: is the element of geography that explains the uniqueness of a location.
· Relationships within places: Geographers look at people’s lives and the way they interact with their environment and the results of interaction.
· Movement: This involves the interaction between people. Including trading goods and traveling to different centuries.
· Regions: Are areas that are named according to the characteristics of that in place. Characteristics such as language and government.
