Moore essay # 5 Chapter 6, Shayne A. What are the main points of that Moore tries to make in the chapter? Moore basically talks about some of things that people and the government are doing to destroy the earth. He says some people are faithfully recycling and the government is misleading those people by making them think they are recycling every little thing we throw in the recycling bins. He says that Congress could have saved close to $700, 000 dollars by just recycling things such as glass bottles, aluminum cans, and cardboard.
Moore says another way we are killing the earth single-handedly is driving around these vehicles which spit out chemicals that are putting a hole in the ozone layer. He says global warming is messing up the world’s temperature and if we don’t do something about it we are in a lot of trouble. Moore says there are chemicals as a result us that are potentially dangerous to us if we don’t start cleaning up our act. He says the most deadly disease known to man (mad cow disease) is a result of the British mishandling their meat supply. At the end of the chapter he discusses how utility customers pay more for there electricity on the west coast of the nation because of deregulation (I still don’t fully understand what this means no matter how many times I read it).
B.
What is the main theme that emerges from these points? The theme I got from this chapter was that if we don’t start cleaning up our act that we are headed for destruction. Congress needs to also hold up their end of the bargain and contribute to the things we are trying to do for the earth such as recycling and carpooling every now and then. He is basically saying that if we are going to take our time and actually recycle then they should process everything we put into those blue and green bins. Saying that they don’t always have time to recycle everything is not a good excuse.

They should make time to recycle everything if it is going to help clean up the earth and also save tax payers money. C. What solution (s) does he propose, if any? He does not offer many solutions throughout the chapter but he does add a couple of things such as how to survive global warming and how to make sure your drinking water is safe enough to drink. D.
Do you generally agree or disagree with Moore? . Explain Why I happen to agree with Mr. Moore because I have heard too many people talking about things such as global warming and harmful chemicals in our drinking water. I always have wanted to do something but I always feel that whatever I am doing is not helping in any way.
Chapters like this make you even more skeptical about whether you are actually helping or not.
