Henry David Thoreau once said, “In the long run, men hit only that they aim at, therefore they had better aim at something high.” I agree with Thoreau completely. When you have goals in life, you ” re going to do anything and everything to accomplish those goals. Therefore why not set higher goals that you will endeavor just with diminutive amount of more effort? One semester of English has gone by and there’s another semester to go. Even though I have done fairly well in English the first semester, I would like to do even better the second semester. I can only do better if I have a plan and this plan is the different types of goals I am going to set for myself.
You can’t be a good student by just doing well in one aspect of any subject. You need to become better in all aspects of the subject and become a better student overall. Writing: Even though my writing has progressed since the beginning of the school year, there are still a few parts that I need to improve in my writing to become a better writer. My vocabulary isn’t that strong and for the second semester, I would like to start to build my vocabulary and use better words in my writing.
I think I can accomplish this goal by memorizing a useful, common word everyday and using it somehow in my daily life. I can also use better words by using the thesaurus while I’m writing. I don’t mean to use the thesaurus and translate every word I’m using but change a few words. By taking words from the thesaurus, I am not only learning new vocabulary words, but also learning how to use them. Another problem that I’m having in my writing that I would like to improve next marking period is using less words. I tend to use too many words and make my writing too wordy.
The Essay on Hundred And Fifty Word Words Writing Register
I wrote this essay so i could register. god damnit this essay has to be atleast two hundred and fifty words. Am i really just sitting here on my computer writing about this bs just so i can look for a topic for my next paper in my religious studies class. I gotta be the worlds biggest geek for doin this bull shit. I mean here i am writing this paper i wonder if anyones going to ever read this? If ...
It’s not that I repeat sentences, I just tend to add too many details that aren’t even needed. I plan on fixing this problem by always going through my writing and seeing which words I could take out that would not make the sentence any different. I believe that writing is all about quality and not quantity. Someone could have a 5 page essay, but if there’s no quality in the essay then the essay is useless. Thinking: The thought process is a very important process, therefore you can never be too good of a thinker. There’s always need for improvement.
I am able to think much better this year but somehow my ideas are never organized. I always analyze the material I am given but don’t ever try to associate it with other things we have learned. I think I can start organizing my ideas by writing down my ideas and brain storming. I’m not used to brainstorming but if that’s what I need to do to become a better thinker then there’s never a better time to start. Listening: Listening is very important and even nature tells us that. Nature gave us one tongue and two ears so we could hear twice as much as we speak.
I would definitely like to be a more conscientious listener. I have became a better listener due to the assessment with rhetoric devices and class discussions, however I still have a lot to improve. Even though I listen carefully when a person is speaking, I don’t remember what they said a day or two later. I could improve this by taking more notes during class. Taking notes will also help me listen better because I will have to listen extra carefully to write down what the person is saying. Speaking: For the forthcoming semester, I would like to become a better speaker.
I believe I have the ability to become a better speaker, I just need to apply myself. The first thing I need to do is have confidence. I really need to have confidence in myself and in my work. The best way to gain confidence is to practice, practice and practice.
The Term Paper on Convincing Someone That Reading Is Important
Everyone needs to read, for it is from reading that we all gain knowledge and creativity. Today, people would rather watch television or movies instead of reading. Reading helps us to use our imagination and paint pictures with the words instead of having the pictures painted for us as it is done on a television. Reading helps with one’s speaking ability by expanding one’s vocabulary because when ...
For example, if I have to do a presentation in front of the class, I should definitely practice enough at home that I can do the presentation without a moment of hesitation. I would also like to set a goal for myself to participate as much as I can in class, or at least once a day. Even if I start with participating just once a day, I can build up my confidence this way and begin to participate even more later on. Reading: For the next semester, I would like to start reading more and skimming less. I need to become used to reading books without skimming parts that are important, no matter how boring those parts may be.
I can improve my reading by reading more books. Even reading one book on my own per month can improve my interest and ability in reading. Analyzing what you read is a good thing but not when you analyze every sentence you read. Not every sentence or page you read necessarily needs to have a hidden meaning behind it. I really need to stop analyzing everything because that can cause confusion. For the next semester, I would like to learn to differentiate between parts that need to be analyzed and parts that don’t need to be analyzed.
I could do this by discussing the material with others or just looking at the material I’m reading and seeing if it has to do with the theme or important subjects of the story. These are all my goals for English next semester and I would like to accomplish all of my goals. Writing, thinking, listening, speaking and reading are all important aspects of English. You cannot be a good English student by just being good in a few of these aspects.
