Explain how God is depicted as a craftsman
God can be depicted as a craftsman for many reasons; people may argue that this is because he created everyone and everything in the universe and that his creation of the universe can be seen in the same way as a craftsman. We see evidence of God being depicted as a craftsman in the bible.
The definition of craftsman is described as ‘A man who practices a craft with great skill’ we see that God has a great skill as to many people they believe he was the one who created everything and everyone on the planet which shows how amazing his skill really is because he created all of us. In Job 38 we see how God can be compared to a craftsman as it says ‘Where were you when I laid the foundation?’ Firstly it is God asking Job where he was when he had to lay the earth’s foundation and shows that he had to do it by himself which shows how much skill he really has just like a craftsman has. Another example to show that God can be depicted as a craftsman is when it says in the bible ‘By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing’ (Genesis 2:7) This is showing Gods impressive skills (like a craftsman) as he had finished creating everything in seven days which he did by himself, he rested after this work was done and was well pleased with his creation and that is why there is a day of rest for God’s honour because of his work and for everything he has done for everyone. Another way we see that God can be depicted as a craftsman is when it says ‘Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens? Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket, or weighed the mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance?’ (Isaiah 40:12) The words ‘Who has measured’ show his greatness and power because it was him who did all the work and he is still asking. He is asking these questions to emphasise the fact that he was the one who created everything in a unique way and accomplished his great purpose it also shows the precise and accurate work he had to do in seven days, creating everything in a certain and particular way.
The Essay on Clive Bell Art Skill Works
I. Reading Clive Bell Sometimes I wonder about Clive Bell. After all, the man was obviously no fool. On the contrary-his every credential, every little detail of his career tells us otherwise: his life as the brilliant young student educated at Trinity College, hob-nob bing with other future intellectual heavyweights such as Lytton Strachey, Sydney-Turner, Leonard Woolf; the young scholar ( ...
Another way in which God is depicted as a craftsman is the way he created humanity in his image and creating the universe out of nothing. Also not just the physical part of creating everything but his determination and accuracy to create the universe in just 7 days. God’s craftsmanship is also displayed in nature everything around us is God’s creation and therefore represents his craftsmanship, every part of his creation was thought out and each detail planned. In the bible it says ‘The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.’ (Psalm 19:1-4) This shows that each part of the universe was created by God and that the heavens represent him and his creations.
To conclude God can be seen as a craftsman in many different ways but mainly just for the fact that he created the universe very precisely and in just under 7 days which shows the hard work he put into this creation.
