One good thing about music is that when it hits you, you feel no pain. I think music in itself is a healing and an explosive expression of humanity. I was born with music in me. Seventeen years went by that I was exposed to this amazing sound called “Music”. A thing that can change the world because it can change people. A simple sound that is made by instruments yet its power is so strong and captures the hearts of many. I have had the privilege of being surrounded by musical legends that kept me going and are the reason for my liking towards music.
It was a dull, gloomy Friday and a thousand emotions ran through me and it was out of my control. I was frustrated, upset and could no longer bare the pain that I was experiencing. Not physically, but emotionally. It is no doubt that everyone has those days which you experience mixed emotions and cannot control them. Something magical and unexplainable happened that day, a day that shall be mentioned and kept close to my heart for eternity.
“I was born with music in me” – The story behind this all began when my father was a deejay in the early 70’s, and so it passed onto my first brother and thereafter my second brother. The passing on of my father and the marriage of my first brother left my second brother to take over this legacy. Suddenly, my dull, gloomy day turned out to be the most breathtaking and mind-blowing day. My brother was playing at one of Durban’s biggest parties and asked me to join him because he could see that I was not in my right state of mind.

I was overwhelmed with this feeling that music can create.
His combination of different music to make it sound like one song truly made me realize how much I love music and how versatile it can be. The impact that my brother’s talent had on thousands of people tempted me to follow into the same path and take over his legacy. That night turned out to be a great success and it was an unforgettable experience that shall be engraved in me for a life time. The power of music is so strong that it turned a dull, gloomy day into a day that is imprinted within me for a very long time.
Different combinations of genres, melodies and made as one. Music is an art, just like a painting it must be done with passion. Music is beauty that can mend all heartache and depression. It’s unbelievable how my brother speaks to the crowd with his music – If a composer could say what he had to say in words he would not bother trying to say it in music. This day will always be kept close to my heart because it made me see the dynamism and virtue of music. My brother is also my inspiration and someday my goal is to be as excellent as him.
