I looked unenthusiastically out of my bedroom window, wishing he
wouldn’t turn up. He was at least 25 years old, with already a few
specks of grey in his hair. He was a lawyer and looked upon by many
respectful people, as a loyal, hard-working, decent man, yet somehow,
one person did not think so. Me – Lou Sade. Perhaps it is the way this
man greeted me, a flash of his disrespectful eyes tracing me from my
head to my toes, or the way he treated me when nobody was within
earshot, especially when not in the company of my father. His name was
Romulus but his close friends called him Rome. Rome Kamau.
Outside I could hear the gates creak open. I sighed, knowing Mr. Kamau
had arrived on my father’s invitation.
‘Quickly Lou! Young Mr. Kamau is here, you don’t want to make a bad
impression, he’s a fantastic man really, I wouldn’t have any idea why
you shouldn’t like him’ called my father. Biting my tongue and
straightening my hair, I got up and made my way as slowly as possible
out of my room and down the stairs towards the huge Georgian entrance.
As father and I made our way towards the unwelcoming doors, a maid
rushed forward to open it. I shivered. I shivered every time I saw
him. He had the palest of pale skin, with rather large, beady eyes,
that made you feel as if you were being watched constantly whenever he
The Essay on Lifestyle Okonkwo Father Fear Man
Okonkwo was well known through out the nine villages because of his achievements in the tribe. Okonkwo had a great fear of becoming like his father. This had a rather large impact on his life and how his personality. Okonkwo's father, Unoka, was a lazy man whereas Okonkwo was a hard worker, Okonkwo ruled his house with a heavy hand and he was a man of war. Okonkwo's father was a man who was not ...
was around.
‘Mr. Kade’ greeted Rome, bowing towards my father in a conniving way.
‘Please, call me Tom’ Father responded. Rome smiled.
‘Lou’ Rome nodded, turning to me, seizing my hand to kiss it. His lips
were like rugged rocks on my delicate, silky hand. I pulled it away.
‘Miss Kade if you don’t mind, Mr. Kamau’ I replied rather coldly. My
father laughed nervously as if it were a joke, but as we walked
towards the dining room, his eyes pierced mine and I could tell that
he was annoyed.
My father sat down at the head of the table, Rome opposite him and I
sat as far away as possible from Rome. The maids laid the table with
various home delicacies and one of our very best bottles of wine, (not
to mention very strong, brought from France as a gift from my cousin),
from the cellar. I became quite irritated as my father and Rome kept
calling upon the maids to bring yet more bottles of wine. After
lengthy discussions that carried on for at least an hour, my mind
started to wander and I began searching for reasons to leave the
table. Steadily, the men’s faces became redder and I began to wonder
if they would notice my absence from the table.
Slowly edging away from the table, father chuckled and cried out ‘Why
Lou! Where are you going at such an early hour?!’ He pulled out his
watch and jumped. ‘I hadn’t realised how fast the time had passed!
Dear me!’ He gave yet another chuckle. I discreetly rolled my eyes in
embarrassment.
I cursed under my breath that I hadn’t moved away earlier. Rome
interrupted, stating ‘Neither me! I was having such a good time. Stay
a little longer, Miss Sade! Here, I don’t believe you haven’t had any
wine yet, why not try it?’ he said grinning from cheek to cheek.
‘No, thank you! I don’t drink wine, it poisons the mind and has such
brainless effects! And you Mr. Kamau… Goodnight gentlemen’ I added
nodding to my father.
With solid determination, I finally marched through the double doors,
The Essay on Rome 7
There are many ways in which Rome was a sophisticated society. Many civilizations and even today we use the Roman Government as a benchmark for our society. The Romans were a very clean people; they had Thermae or the public baths, as we know them. They went to the baths for entertainment, healing in the case of some baths, or just to get clean. There were 170 baths in Rome during the reign of ...
and closed them and with an enormous clunk and I found myself out of
the room. As I was making the way across the hall, towards the stairs,
I heard the double doors to the lounge suddenly burst open. A trick of
the mind, perhaps? But alas, not.
‘Miss Kade… ‘ Rome’s voice boomed followed by a great ‘ufff’. Had he
tripped over the rug?
‘Please Miss Kade’ he repeated. I did not turn around, remaining in a
motionless position with my back towards him, my right foot in a
heeled shoe, resting on the first step. ‘May I talk to you for a
moment?’
‘Talk, then, Romulus’ I replied coldly.
He clutched my arm and turned me roughly around to face him. He gazed
at me with great annoyance. I was pleased that I had created this
effect. I saw Rome’s veins, as if etched onto his head with a shiny
white scalpel, a great dark flush appeared over his unevenly shaven
cheeks and I noticed for the first time that under those black bushy
eyebrows, were chiseled, a set of soft baby blue eyes.
