Grendel We live in times when it became the statement of fashion, on the part of government officials, to appear as being concerned about worlds injustices, while pretending that they really do care about hungry children of Somalia. This betrays them as hypocrites of the worst kind, because it is exactly the fact that two thirds of worlds population struggle hard to meet the ends that allows people in Western countries to enjoy high standards of living. The reason why such countries as Britain, France and Germany were able to push scientific and cultural progress forward, is that throughout the early history of these countries, their rulers knew very well that considerations of morality is nothing but a chimera. They understood a very simple fact that strengthening a political power, on their part, had a status of foremost priority. When Machiavelli wrote his book The Prince, it instantly became a hit among great many people, because the principles of Machiavellism correspond to the objective reality. Therefore, even in modern times, the ideas of Machevellism remain very acute, as they encourage people to take active stance in life, rather then relying on divine graces, when it comes to establishing themselves socially. Macheavellism appeals to me more than any other political theory, because I am a realist and as such, I hold no illusions as to the nature of driving force behind politics.
The power has the empirical value and the strive to power, on the part of individual, does not require an additional justification, because when we suppress others, in order to advance socially, we act with accordance to the most fundamental law of nature only the strong and ruthless people deserve to dominate others. It always used to be the case, throughout the history, and it will continue to be the case in the future, despite pathetic attempts of hawks of political correctness to adjust the objective reality to their beliefs that are based on wishful thinking. The character of Grendel, in John Gardners novel, appears as someone who knows perfectly well that religion, rituals and culture has no other purpose than helping those in charge of running the show to legitimize their lust for power. This is the reason why Grendel laughs when he hears people referring to Hrothulf as king by divine appointment. In his conversation with Wealtheow, Hrothulf reveals a true nature of political dynamics to his nephew. It is nobility that benefits from the existence of state the most, despite the claims of authorities that existence of such state has no other purpose then protecting the well-being of ordinary citizens. This suggestion is absolutely valid and can be applied to describe the essence of politics even in the most democratic country on Earth – U.S. Poor people in this country are being thrown to jail for failing to pay as little as hundred dollars in taxes, while financial tycoons move their assets to off-shore accounts and enjoy life to the fullest, without having to deal with such nonsense as complying with the law.

Periodically, these tycoons get to be elected to the Senate, where they promote lawful behavior as the only appropriate lifestyle. Empiricism is a philosophy, which describes sensory perception as the tool of understanding the world. However, as we have proven earlier, such perception is often misleading; because we cannot think of our senses as such that have value in itself. The bulk of political notions are based on such perception, which prevents us from thinking of these ideas as being truly objective. We can refer to Empiricism as philosophical reflection of European idealism, which has biological essence. The racial make-up of White people defines their existential mode, by causing them to always act as idealists.
This is why; even when it would come to wholesale extermination of natives, such as had taken place in America in 18th and 19th centuries, White settlers would never feel any remorse, because they truly believed that spreading the word of God was beneficial to savages. We can say that Empiricism lays the ground for the political philosophies that exploit irrationalism as the main tool of causing masses to believe that there are higher values, worthy of sacrifices, on peoples part. Machiavellism teaches political leaders to utilize citizens idealism to achieve very practical goals. As such, it has higher value then empiricist philosophies, because it simply stands above the issues, in which empiricists are hopelessly bogged down.
