Harry Truman: “one tough son-of-a-bitch of a man ” The main idea of this article is simply telling a kind of behind the scenes story of Harry Truman. The article makes it a point for the reader to see the types of decisions he was making and what Truman felt about the decisions. The author also attempts to display Truman’s true thoughts on events such as demobilizing the American army after World War 2. It is interesting to know a president and what he was capable of but it becomes more interesting when you know the presidents true feelings and the fact that in the beginning he really didn’t even want to be president. Apparently Truman was very old fashioned, so he did not really like to use the telephone. Therefore this author was able to read the many letters that Truman wrote over time and this creates a window into the real Truman.
This type of evidence is extremely helpful when writing a biographical article pertaining to a president. The thesis is clearly supported with excellent evidence such as Truman’s many letters that he wrote during his time as president. Many times authors have to speculate or make their own deductions pertaining to the real person behind the presidency but in this case we can have a good view of Harry Truman the person, not the president. I would definitely recommend this article to another student. It is much more interesting to read, rather then just reading the text book of facts instead of it being more like story which is easier to understand. Knowing a president’s personality can be very helpful when analyzing the situations the country was in and how the president reacted..
