There are many characteristics within the healthcare facility that makes it thrive, and the three components required for a healing hospital are a healing physical environment, the integration of work design and technology, and a culture of “radical loving Care”. Bringing Scripture and biblical aspects into the hospital to promote compassion, encourages healing with faith based knowledge even for patients with different cultural and belief backgrounds. The are 3 main components to a healing hospital are a healing physical environment, the integration of work design and technology, and a culture of “Radical Loving Care” (Eberst, 2008).
I work at a hospital with open visitation in the ICU, but in order to promote healing, we have established “Quiet Time” from 2200-0400. The challenges with that, is people are still coming and going as they please even though we try to get baths and medications taken care of outside of that time frame. All nurses and allied health professionals try to coordinated therapy around the same time so if we must wake the patient up, it is at least within a time frame of only waking the patient up once. There may be times where there is a lack of communication, and the nurse, respiratory therapist, lab and EKG tech all need to see one patient and if we all wake the patient up at separate occasions, that limits the healing process of the patient because it is when we sleep that the body heals and regenerates.

Integration of work design and technology increases patient security and privacy and enables staff to work more efficiently. New equipment gives the facilities an advantage to speedy test results and diagnostic procedures. The most important of all the components are radical loving care. Eberst states, “It is easy to promote a beautiful building, artwork, gardens and technology. But is a hospital lacks the culture of compassionate care and the people committed to that philosophy, it is not a healing hospital” (Eberst, 2008).
Challenges with cultural diversity may arise because of differences in opinion and beliefs when it comes to patient care, but having a true calling for being a healthcare provider comes with a great deal of compassion for other people. Biblical Aspects
A biblical aspect in creating a healing hospital is the best kind of hospital to be at. The Bible speaks of numerous accounts of Christ healing through the faith in God. Many hospitals go by a mission statement that encourages staff to always do what they feel is best for the patient and by always putting God first and working as a vessel to heal. My hospital’s mission statement is “Through our exceptional health care services, we real the healing presence of God”. Our mission statement is encouragement to keep in mind our duty to every person that comes through the hospital doors. Isaiah 41:10 “So do not fear, for I am with you, do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous hand” (NIV).
I am a true advocate for repeating this in prayer with true conviction, and being in a healing hospital this is one scripture the provides strength and hope in situations that seem impossible or with little hope for recovery.
Understanding components to healing hospitals and bringing forth biblical aspects to teach, learn, and heal are only true ways healthcare providers can show compassion and heal with the help of God. Bringing comfort to those in need with their safety and advocacy in mind promotes good spirits and a better outcome. Healing hospitals and putting God at the forefront of decision making and care makes the hospital thrive in compassionate care.
