The lecture held by Ms. Godin on February 12 th informed me about the health and safety issues that IT workers deal with. One of the points that caught my attention was when Ms. Godin talked mentioned the word “OH&S” which stands for Occupational health and safety. OH&S affects everybody that works in the IT industry because it is a guideline for people working in the IT industry, different companies have different OH&S and the worker’s are suppose to know about how the OH&S applies to them in their field. The companies are required to hire workers that are certified in WHMIS or train those workers, ergonomics, air quality, safety committee etc.
, These are some of the requirements of OH&S. If a worker or a IT company decides to ignore OH&S then the company and the worker will be violating the law. A lot of responsibilities come along with OH&S, most of the responsibilities go towards the employer then supervisor and then the worker. The main goal of the worker is to inform the supervisor about any OH&S problems and the supervisor is to inform this problem to the employer and the employer is suppose to solve this problem regarding the OH&S. The OH&S law also says that you should keep record on everything that is being done in the workplace and also a witness to sign the documents to say that you did the work according to the OH&S law. Severe actions will be taken against workers that disregard the OH&S law and some of the punishable events are when employee’s fail to talk about hazards, preventions of injury and the penalty for breaking the law is a minimum fine of $25, 000 per charge and it applies to both the company and the employees.
The Research paper on Company Law 2
Promoters, as defined in Twycross v Grant (1877) 2 CPD 469, are persons who involved in the incorporation of a company. And the common law has extended the scope of “promoter” further in Tracy v Mandalay Pty Ltd (1953) 88 CLR 215. In this case, the High Court held that the promoters are not just these persons who take an active part in the formation process, but also these who profits from the ...
Other things that could happen because of not following the OH&S is that the insurance premium could go up, products could be recalled and the company could be sued. I also learned that I should know a lot of things before I start my own IT company because if I don’t follow the procedures and rules of the OH&S law then my company could be in jeopardy and I will be the one held responsible for all the faults of my company. One of the things I learned from this lecture is that as a employee I should always be aware of what I am responsible for when I am working and I should also be aware of all the procedures that I need to follow in the OH&S. This was a very informative presentation due to the fact that I will be out in the work world some day and I need to know a lot of things about health and safety at work and I also learned about what I could do as a worker to prevent myself from getting injured at work or being harassed at work. I also learned that I should be aware of everything in my surroundings at work because during a emergency situation I should be able to locate all the things needed to help another employee or help my self out during a emergency situation. I also learned that as a worker I also have the responsibility to inform my supervisor about unsafe conditions in the workplace.
I also learned that as a worker I have the power to make sure that all safety issues that I have addressed must be solved or else I could go to the employer or the OH&S committee where they will attend to my safety concerns This was once again very informative and good presentation because it will help me later on in my life.
