The health care industry is the fastest growing field. As the years go by, more and more discoveries will be made. This paper will discuss the changes from the past 10 years, what I believe will be the biggest change in the next 10 years, my role in the industry, adapting my skills to grow with the change, my perception towards the changes, technologies role, and financial and economical issues. Changes Within the Last 10 Years
There have been many changes that have occurred within the last 10 years. People are living longer due to the development of new treatment options and testing. The H1N1 vaccination was discovered when a worldwide epidemic took place taking away many lives. The purpose of the changes is to ensure quality care for everyone and to build trust with consumers. Surgeries and treatment plans don’t require long waits like back in the days including “eye surgeries, like cataract surgery” (Stonewell, D., 2011).
Today patients living with HIV aren’t considered as patients with a death sentence any longer. The drugs that are available keep those infected with HIV healthy and living a long normal life. Changes Within the Next 10 Years
The biggest change that will occur in health care within the next 10 years I believe will be a cure to terminal diseases such as cancer and HIV. Along with that, I believe that health care costs will be lowered due to changes in the health care industry. Breaking news recently is that a cure for HIV has almost been discovered. Now there is a drug available that can be taken before having sexual intercourse with a partner that will prevent contracting the HIV infection. There has also been a breakthrough in curing cancer with injecting patients with the rotavirus. Health care costs may be lowered because the industry is looking for ways to improve quality care along with the costs to be beneficial with anyone. My role in the industry revolves around being a leader and making sure the facility I work in runs smoothly and delivers the best care possible. I would like to maintain a position as an administrator to the facility or an assistant administrator. This job requires in helping to plan out functions in the facility, maintain motivation amongst all employees, ensuring that all employees are working to the best of their ability, correcting problems, make sure patients are getting the best care possible, holding meetings, taking assessments, etc. The job can be very stressful but the duties of this position are important to ensure that everyone knows what to do. To ensure that my skills can adapt appropriately, I can receive training in the field and learn the new skills needed along with studying new material. I can advance in my field by taking new courses to continue to grow and develop new skills that will be necessary. The courses can revolve around administration, management, leadership, and other topics that will be beneficial. Since the Internet contains everything about changes I can look up on the new skills and find new ways to adapt by doing research online. My perception towards the health care industry has changed dramatically because before I wasn’t aware of the laws, cost, issues, new growths, advancement in technology, etc. I was not aware of HIPAA laws and the rights patients have. I wasn’t aware that many people weren’t receiving the care they need because they couldn’t afford it and couldn’t find coverage. The biggest impact is “the health care costs, health care access, and the outcomes from it” (Wood, R., 2009, p. 1).

Technology will play a huge role in the medical industry from security, new treatment options and diagnosing patients, contacting patients and keeping touch through the web such as video conference, prescription refills, etc. It will help to “ensure the compliance in the legal requirements of health care and it will help to reduce the costs and provide better care than before” (Finnegan, 2012) Technology will help with providing more “communication systems, electronic medical records, and more computerized physician order entry solutions at a fast speed than before” (Finnegan, 2012).
Patients will be happier with the faster services and the improvement with the quality care. Financial and Economic Issues
Financial and economic issues that will be faced are results from baby boomers. Our society isn’t prepared for people living longer and providing the care that will be needed. This means that there will be a need in long-term care treatments, more facilities, and more workers skilled in the field to deal with the elderly. Issues that will arise are medical costs for training new staff, building renovations, expansions, or new building developments. There will be an increase in elderly needing wheel chairs, hospice services, etc. To prepare society with the baby boomers will require time putting a strain of the financial and economics of the health care industry. The health care industry will continue to grow as the years come to improve quality care for everyone. Today people are living longer and healthier lives due to new technology and discoveries of new medication. There are new tests available that give results within minutes such as testing for HIV, STREP, Anemia, etc. Knowing results quickly provides the ability to start treatment as soon as possible and avoid spreading contagious diseases. There will be setbacks as the industry accommodates changes for the baby boomers but overall the health care industry is getting better and better in meeting needs of the consumers. Changes will take place with the costs, speed in care given, development of new technology, cures for terminal diseases, etc.
