The Term Paper on Complaint handling and service recovery
Why do customers complain? In general, studies of consumer complaining behavior have identified four main purposes for complaining. 1. Obtain restitution or compensation. Often, consumers complain to recover some economic loss by seeking a refund, compensation, and/or have the service performed again. 2. Vent their anger. Some customers complain to rebuild self-esteem and/or to vent their anger ...
The person I selected to interview is Cynthia Griffin, the resident supervisor of EJ’s Place. Griffin’s responsibilities include ensuring residents are provided appropriate care by her staff, which she monitors by giving employee evaluations. She is responsible for making sure residents of the adult day care facility receive all their scheduled medications, are treated with dignity and respect and investigate any complaints by the residents and/or their family members. RN Griffin is in charge of enforcing detailed action plans that are designed to make sure employees carry out their assigned obligations and responsibilities. This guarantees that the facility is operating in accordance with Florida law and that all residents are properly cared for and enjoy their time spent at EJ’s Place. Career Path
When asked what her career path was, Griffin informed me she always wanted to be the supervisor of EJ’s Place. She began her career as a Corpsman in the Navy. After a brief tour in the military she went to nursing school and became an registered nurse. She informed me she always had the need to help people and that being a nurse ran in her family. She told me her mother and sister were both nurses. The educational requirements for the position of supervisor is that one must have their bachelors of nursing degree and all related qualifications and certifications like CPR, BLS, first aid etc. They must also have the requisite working experience in an adult day care. However; nursing home experience can be substituted for lack of adult day care experience. She began working for EJ’s Place shortly after nursing school and has worked there for twelve years now, although not all that time was spent at her current position of supervisor. In her seventh year working for EJ’s Place the position of supervisor became open and she applied and was hired. She credits her hard work, experience and ability to communicated effectively with both staff as well as residents as the chief reason she was given the position. Although it can be a very stressful job, Griffin says she absolutely loves her job. Educational Requirements

When asked what were the educational requirements for the position, Griffin said a bachelors in nursing was all that was required. After she left the Navy she used her GI Bill to pay for nursing school. Prior to obtaining her bachelors she obtained her LVN license in the state of Florida. She was able to get the basic medical knowledge from her time as a Corpsman working at the Naval Hospital Jacksonville, Florida. Education preparing you for the job
When faced with this question, Griffin, to my surprise said that her time spent in the Navy did the most to prepare her for her current job. There she learned how to deal with people, how to interact with superiors and how to work under stress. She touts her Corpsman training for giving her the foundation of her medical knowledge that she still uses today. Important attribute for success
“Communication is the most important attribute for success in any position”. Griffin said that from the janitor to the supervisor if there is no communication that everything will shut down and the business, or rather any business one finds themselves in will not operate smoothly. With the success in her current position she says that she has learned along the way that good communication is what got her where she wanted to be. When asked to give another reason for her success she replied “good old fashion hard work”. She informed me that she had to work harder than her peers, as getting good grades did not come easily to her as it did to some of her nursing school classmates. While going to nursing school she had to work part time to provide for her family and to have money to pay bills. She graduated in the top 5% of her class. When asked how graduating in the top 5% made her feel, she replied “hard work and dedication always pays off.” Adapting role in health care

I see the adult day care facility playing a huge role in the future of health care. RN Griffin agrees with this assessment. We both agree that the technology can improve in the adult day care facilities, from residents medications and medical records being stored on computers rather than paper/chart records. Facilities like EJ’s Place will continue to grow and provide a place where adults who need assistance with daily living can have their health care needs met at an affordable price. A place where their families can visit and where they can feel some semblance of home life. Conclusion
RN Cynthia Griffin, the current supervisor of EJ’s Place loves her job. I could see it when I went to interview her. Her staff loves her leadership and the residents all speak fondly of her. She enjoys helping people and thinks her skills are best suited for giving adults the necessary tools to live a better, more fulfilling life. From her time sent in the Navy, to her nursing home days and at her current position of supervisor; one thing has remained constant – her love for people and her work ethic. Health care is something that makes her feel like she is making a difference in the lives of people.
