A sustainable amount of financial help will go a long way too for the program to succeed. Parents seen actively supporting the scheme will tremendously help the children. And those parent volunteers can also apply what is being done in the program to help their children at home.
The tutors participating in the program can benefit a lot. It teaches them social responsibility and leadership. This small program for reading have reached new heights as it has impacted a lot of people, from the readers, tutors, teachers and parents. Categorically, the school as well as it provides a positive outcome. A bond is slowly forming between readers and tutors. Tutors feel somewhat responsible for their younger peer and feels elated as they progress. They also feel protective of them around the school campus. Tutoring gives them self-confidence knowing they are helping someone in their own little way. The readers also gain a lot from this experience as they not only improve their reading ability, they also get the sense of accomplishing something with the help of an older friend. By this, they learn to interact with older kids and not feel intimidated by them.
It is pleasing to know that this Peer Tutoring Literacy Program is very successful as it continues on. It provides a safe and comfortable venue for struggling readers to slowly come out and read well, also benefitting the tutors who teach them.
