Joseph and Anna Gartner Annual Holocaust Essay Contest – 2003 The Joseph and Anna Gartner Annual Holocaust Essay Contest is open annually to all middle, high school and undergraduate college students throughout Monroe County. We believe that studying the Holocaust, which occurred over 50 years ago, and learning from it, can help us create a world where hate is not allowed to thrive. The question your are going to address in your essay is: What can happen when individual human rights are not protected? Contest details: ELIGIBILITY: Middle, high school students and undergraduate college students. CRITERIA: Essays will be judged on how well the writer presents information on the topic chosen. Historical accuracy is essential. AWARDS: Prizes will be award in three categories (college, high school, middle school) First $100 Second $75 Third $25 Award certifi cates and prizes will be awarded at the Yom Ha Shoah Commemoration on April 29, 2003 at the Memorial Art Gallery.
FORMAT: All essays must be typed, double-spaced, font size 12 pt. , with standard margins and stapled in the upper right hand corner. The cover page should include: 1) student’s name, home address, home phone, email, 2) school name, address and phone number, 3) teacher’s name and class subject LENGTH: 5 pages minimum, 10 pages maximum SUBMISSION: An original and five copies must be submitted, postmarked by April 1, 2003 to: Dr. Sharon Dobkin Monroe Community College – Room 5-410 1000 E.
