“The Cult of Che”
What is interesting about the report is, Jay-Z makes himself sound educated when rapping. He usually talks about politics and coming up from poverty. He has so much pride for his race but puts Chey in his lyrics who puts down his generation by saying, “The Negro is lazy and indolent and spends all of his money on frivolities and booze, whereas the European is intelligent and forward-looking.” What makes Che so important to Jay-Z? Did he think that Che had power and money? Or did he want to just be like him? Is that what he meant when he said, “I am like Che Guevara with bling on? I’m complex” or did he just have no idea who he really was and what he really represented. Jay-Z has the power to influence people by the lyrics he writes.
I also find it interesting that Chey Guevara’s face is all over t-shirts, baby onesies, beer, lighters, belt buckles, etc. So what image is Americans going for? What are we teaching our youth? Is it to be tough, free minded, spiritual, and independent; what is it that Americans seeks when buying their clothing? Che is represented with jean jackets, baggy jeans, ripped up black nail polish, and spiky hair. Every gender, race, and nationality among young teens are wearing his clothing. I myself have seen this t-shirt, but up until I seen this report on Fox News I didn’t know who he was or why he was important. I thought he was a famous rock star as most of us Americans would believe. Although I didn’t purchase one of these items, I always wanted to know what the big deal was and what attracts us to buy this product. If we as Americans already have freedom, why do we choose to express ourselves so negatively with a man who wanted to destroy America by supporting him and keeping his negative memory alive? If you ask the person who is wearing this shirt, he would raise his hand and say “rock on” and “itsfreedom of expression.” People who showed disobedience against Chey would be shot or tortured to death.
The Essay on Gatsbys Pursuit Of The American Dream
Gatsby's Pursuit of the American Dream The Great Gatsby is about the American Dream, and the decline of people who attempt to reach the dream like goal. The attempt to reach the American dream is a common theme in many movies that have been produced. This dream is different for different people, but in The Great Gatsby Jay believes that the source of happiness is money. Jay Gatsby is a character ...
Pathos is in this report when “Glenn Beck” refers to the artists Jay-Z’s lyrics. Jay-Z incorporates Che referring to him as being blinged out and in control. I consider myself to be a big Jay-Z fan. His lyrics are very powering and often very encouraging. By writing these lyrics he might have influence over people to be like Che who is evil and a killing machine. It completely changed my outlook on which he stands for because he believed in a man who demolished Americans and who has a special hatred and anger towards African Americans. When Glenn Beck gives an option on choosing, “who is saying destructive things about the U.S. either Che or Bin Ladin.” It captures the audience because everyone knows who Bin Ladin is and how he destroyed the Twin Towers of New York City. We as Americans have so much anger towards Bin Laden and hearing the sayings ” If he had nuclear weapons, he would use them against the very heart of America, including New York City?” and “The U.S. is a great enemy of mankind? Against those hyenas, there is no option but extermination”? Finding out these saying were from the mouth of Che caused the reader to really see who this man really was.
Numerous times in this report, ethos and logos were used when Glenn Beck started mentioning merchandise and pictures of the actual killings of the people in Cuba. Showing this he knew what he was talking about, by stating the facts and the background of Che. Beck gains respect by showing he has our best interests at heart. He brings a variety of people in that have the exact same stories. It shows the audience how they really know what they are talking about. Talking about the singers and models makes an appeal to the younger audience.
The Essay on Atrocity And The American People
An atrocity is defined as "An act of cruelty and violence inflicted by an enemy-armed force upon civilians or prisoners." Some believe this war in Kosovo is about politics. However, upon examination of the specifics of this conflict it is apparent that this is about religion. People must then decide whom, if anyone is committing these atrocities. Should the United States be involved in the ...
I believe the rhetorical appeals where affective in light of the audience because it shows Americans that we live in a time that seems to move faster than time, a place that seems to have no place for the truth, and a reality that seems to have no place for reality. We young adults are more acceptable to be the target because we don’t really know what’s going on in the world. We choose to wear clothing appeals not even knowing what they really stand for. Americans need to stop overlooking things and focus on the things going on in the world. Stop idolizing people who have negative effect on the American soil. Let us young people stand up and be knowledgeable to all the destruction going on around us. Don’t let us be categorized as “useful idiots.”
