Information flows all over the golf course industry, from e-mails of employee records and payroll, to chemical application records and weather data. Until I decided to further my education and pursue a degree in information technology I always took for granted what happens when someone hits the send button. I am employed by a golf course management company; we are hired by the golf courses to provide a cost effective approach to maintaining their golf course. As a management company we have golf courses located throughout the United States, in order to keep everyone “on the same page” we need a system to control the flow of our information. I really do not know the full spectrum of the IT aspect of our company, one thing I do know is that we are all connected by a centralized database. My company uses a Citrix server as a platform for us all to log onto. All of our e-mails, employee records, payroll data, reports, and budget information is transmitted and stored at our servers at our corporate offices.
I have never been to the corporate offices so I have no idea what we are using. At my local course I use a local computer with internal storage for things like employee reviews, agronomic planners, and other non-informational forms. We also have a second computer that is connected to the golf course irrigation system. This computer controls the flow of water, stores different watering schedules, and stores past water usage and weather history. It is connected to the internet via a router to allow for remote access. There is really no classified or important information stored on the irrigation computer so just the firewall that was pre-installed on the computer is used. To access the irrigation computer remotely we just need to enter a PIN to show correct credentials to gain access the central program once logged on we can turn the system on or off. Any information I deal with at my location is sent to our corporate office main database. Depending on what information I am sending, I can place certain items in different locations.
The Essay on Web Site Internet Computer Companies
The Internet opens up new worlds accessible to anyone with a computer and an Internet server. The Internet can provide the user with a new means of communication, entertainment, shopping and possibly even the answers to the most rhetorical questions on the planet. For instance, Delaware is a small state that relatively few people know much about. Currently there is a Internet site insisting that ...
We have a public folder which can be accessed by anyone in our organization. This can include planners, reports, field trial results, or any other useful information that might be helpful or used by other courses. There is also a course specific folder which can only be accessed by those who need to view pertinent items concerning that specific course. The golf course Superintendent, the Regional Superintendent, or any higher level manager might be some of those who would be able to access files in that folder. There we will place employee forms such as performance appraisals, payroll forms, budgetary information, or any other sensitive personal or financial information.
In conclusion, the role of information submission and how it flows has changed with golf course maintenance, most everything before was written down, printed out and originals were then mailed to the intended recipient. This method left a chance of important documents getting lost in the mail, or opened by someone else, either accidentally or maliciously. It also was very slow; at best you were looking at a 24 hour delivery of information. Today, by sending files electronically, information can be there in seconds. As I stated before, I never really gave thought to how our information was sent and/or secured I just took it for granted. As I progress further into my IT studies I hope to have a better understanding on the best methods to keep data safe.
