Even though this street can seem insignificant in comparison to City Road in Cardiff and is very different, they both have very similar features from a social science point of view. It has a round hallway with a lift and an escalator. It provides toilets and a couple of baby changing facilities as well as a very friendly coffee shop which welcomes kids of all ages. All of the units on both floors are easy to reach with prams or wheelchairs. There is a large car park and a supermarket behind it. These facilities help shape the character of the shopping centre and that of the individual shops. The stores for young women and kids, like Mothercare, women’s clothes shops and even HMV are thriving and have a long history. On the other hand shops aiming at the other groups don’t seem to do well and are always changing.
It was not the quality of the product or the services they provided, but simply the wrong location for them.
