I have lived in a city called Chongqing for more than 20 years, which is in the upper reach of great three gorges. For years, people living here enjoy comforts of surroundings, mountains and two rivers, of the city. Last year, the first year of the operation of the great dam, our city suffered an intense drought, which is, I must say, ironically for a city surrounded by two rivers. I couldn’t help relating the drought to the dam together. Does human activity damage the earth? Obviously, truth has told us already.
For centuries, people have no awareness about phrases like environment deterioration or global warming, according to their books or other legacy. It is the increase of human activities, more precisely the Industrial Revolution since 19th century, has quickened the deterioration of environment on earth currently. When introducing their fancy machines into our society to serve their interest, enterprisers in 19th century didn’t realize that they leave a global problem to us.
The increase of human activities has brought us disasters as I mentioned above. Apart from that, global warming is another problem intensely concerned recently. Global warming, mostly due to the emission of carbon dioxide produced by our activities, has caused the collapse of a piece of iceberg in the continent of north pole according to a movie called , which won the Oscar Award in the documentary category last year. In this sense, I would argue that, it hasn’t gone too far to say we should take the responsibility of the deterioration of the environment.

Some people claim that we are convinced of the environment deterioration by scientists and green enterprises on purpose, aiming to persuade us to purchase their environmental facilities, while the climate change is natural throughout the life of earth. It might count, however, from my perspective, I would rather believe climate change is our fault before we clarify to what extent our activities contribute to the deterioration of environment.
While acknowledging that human activities facilitate our daily life, I would emphasize the importance of the environment at the top of priority. From a more rational perspective, I would say that human activities damage the earth while improving it. It is time for us to make up. After all, we have the only one planet to live before we manage to settle down in another.
