Once the identity thief has your personal information, there are many things they can do with your information.
They can use your information to go on shopping sprees, open new accounts, change mailing addresses, take out auto loans in your name, and establish phone or wireless services and many other things. There are many ways you can protect yourself from having identity theft happen to you. One, never give out your personal information over the phone, through the mail or over the internet unless you ” ve initiated the contact or are sure you know who you are dealing with. Another way is never carry your social security card with you; leave it in a secure place. Three, is secure personal information in your home, especially if you have roommates, employ outside help or are having service work done in your home. And last carry only the identification information and the number of credit and debit cards that you ” ll actually need.
