Imperialism is defined as a forceful extension of a nation’s authority by territorial conquest, or by establishing economic and political powers over a weaker nation. Imperialism can have many effects on a nation, whether it’s redrawing political boundaries or a religious conflict. These two effects took place in Russia during the 1900’s, and the other in Germany 1933. The people behind these effects were Joseph Stalin for Russia, and Adolf Hitler for Germany. Joseph Stalin came into sole power of the USSR in 1928, after winning the confidence of the Russian people.
This of course was after the death of the former ruler Lenin. Stalin was determined to make Russia mighty and powerful, to ensure that there would be no way for Germany to gain it. Stalin went completely mad with power and by 1934, The Great Purges began. Stalin had many strong officials and countless innocent people put on trial, and forced to admit crimes they most likely did not commit; like treason. If they were lucky, they would have been imprisoned, otherwise they were executed as soon as possible.
His Secret Police were on the prowl for anyone, and everyone. However, this imperialism caused heavy damage on Russia itself; People were dying, churches were being burned and Stalin himself as in constant paranoia. In the long-term impact, people were in constant fear, technology seemed to go nowhere and the army was badly weakened. Politically, Stalin was doing all he could to redefine himself as the absolute autocrat to save Russia by “redrawing” his political boundaries.
The Essay on Imperialism European Nations Markets
'Examine the Causes of European Imperialism After 1870'European control and power over other nations was not a new ideal prior to 1870; in fact the process was in place as early as the 14 th century. Disease and geography are only two of the factors that prevented European colonisation until the 19 th century. Many factors led to the massive rise in imperialism after 1870, both internal and ...
Adolf Hitler became Chancellor of Germany in 1933. That same year, Hitler caused a large religious conflict in Germany. By then, Hitler already had complete control of everything from the court system with Nazification, to the young people in Hitler’s youth. Hitler knew there was much more to consider, so in 1933, Hitler signed the Reichskonkordat agreement with the Vatican in Rome. This was to ensure the rights of the Catholic Church in Germany. However, Hitler did not keep his word; he did the absolute opposite.
This helped out Germany from Hitler’s view because slowly and surely, things were going his way. Churches were being closed down, and many priests were arrested, or sent to concentration camps. Hitler was able to get rid of the “Old testament”, and introduced his “Reich Church. ” The ideas of the Nazis were much more valued now and by 1938, every protestant minister pledged loyalty to Hitler. The long-term impact this effect of imperialism had on Germany, was the miss-trust almost every nation had toward the nation.
It would be a very large amount of time before Germany would be accepted again after these events. Hitler was seen as a persuasive chronic liar. In conclusion, Joseph Stalin and Adolf Hitler caused Imperialism and its effects in Russia, and Germany. These two nations were harmed by these effects, and both bared long-term struggles. Today, there are many more effects that imperialism can cause to a nation, or powers. We continue to witness and endure these effects, whether it may be good or bad.
