Commitment is defined by Google as the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause, activity, etc. Regardless of the activity it is an essential attribute in order to be successful within that activity. Commitment starts with a choice and is sustained by dedication and perseverance. There are many attributes that are parallel such as leadership and dedication that are curtail for personal progress and over all attainment. It is difficult to have any of these attributes without the others.
Wither it is a sport, job, or hobby commitment and dedication is required in order to prosper within said activity. This also includes being on time to all activities wither they are required or not. Someone who is constantly tardy and is known for it cannot as likely be depended on which is essential within a leadership position. In my case The Army ROTC program requires a tremendous amount of commitment and Time accuracy in order to develop the necessary skills to become a future leader of the Army.
The characteristic of leadership is one of the most important needed within an army officer. According to the MSL 1 textbook the definition of leadership is as follows: the process of influencing people by providing them with purpose, direction, and motivation while you are operating to accomplish a mission and improve the organization. Without this characteristic what would be the point of an officer? This quality is what gives these certain individuals the ability to be looked up to while they humbly organize those who they are responsible for.

Additionally without leadership qualities it would me impossible for order to be constructed and withheld. An officer cannot lead others if he is uneducated on how to answer questions and deal with situations he/she find him/herself in and are forced to make decisions upon. Therefore an officer requires intelligence or he/she could cause the deaths of lives on the battlefield. This type of intelligence is reflective upon the individual’s competencies and their experience and cannot be achieved with lack of commitment and dedication through out there training process.
He/she must be stable in order for others to trust them with their lives and come to them when they are in need. This cannot be achieved if the leader is constantly late and unreliable for themselves. I can relate to this topic because I have a friend within my close childhood friend group who has always been known to be late. This gives him and his family an unreliable ethos and can not been counted upon even with the small things.
Therefor, when we have gatherings we do not ask him to be responsible of bringing anything important forget about trusting him with our lives in a combat situation. Personal development is essential for any upcoming officer of any military branch. If an individual is not self stable or undeveloped how should they be expected to lead others? Time management is one of the key components of personal development. Officers should know how to use time wisely and set “SMART” Goals. Organization is key within an officers lifestyle otherwise disorganization will consume him/her.
Personally I have recently struggled with fortifying my concepts of dedication, commitment, and procrastination but I seek change within these fields and am striving to concrete these attributes in both ROTC, school, and social/family life. I know that the program will give me the boundaries I need in order to grow in the right direction with dedicated peers and instructors to keep me on track constructively. I strive to become a leader as well as a strong disciplined individual to the best of my abilities in order to be reliable and successful.
