The study of history is important because it helps us to understand the world we live in today. History is about causes and effects. Historians analyze what has happened in the past and apply it to the world we live in today. Between the years of 1688 and 1850 there were major political revolutions taking place. The industrial revolution was a direct effect of these political revolutions.
The industrial revolution began in Britain and the years between 1740-1860 are labeled as the prime period of its arrival. Britain experienced a major expansion of productivity with its cotton textile industry that grew into the strongest into the world. I feel that a sense of industrialization stemmed directly out of the fact that France created the first national army and more importantly the largest national army. The French created the first national army of 800, 000 men. An army of this magnitude was unheard of during this time. With that many people in an army, the main issue is to provide the necessary equipment for them.
This led to a mass production of uniforms, weapons, boots, and socks. This was a major duty as far as industry was concerned during this time. Britain’s railway system was the main means for transporting goods and also communication at this time. I would also like to point out another effect of the political revolutions on the industrial revolution. The lack of technology played a major role in events that took place during the political revolutions.

For example, when Napoleon tried to conquer Russia, the severe terrain in combination with the hundreds of miles across the border made it very difficult for Napoleon and his army to stage a decent attack. His army could only carry so much food on their backs. Not just food but also weapons and clothes. Maybe if the technology of transportation were more advanced at the time, the outcome might have been very different for Napoleon.
There are several reasons why the industrial revolution was said to originate in Britain. Britain as a state had a strong sense for economic growth. More production and distribution agriculturally was encouraged by the state despite the fact that the economy was a system that separated state and private business. The society of in Britain also seemed to support itself in the sense that people of all classes encouraged each other and tried to work together. Integration of classes was something that was inconceivable before the political revolutions. Expansion of population is inevitable and during this time it seemed to fuel the grow economy and its need for labor.
The results of the industrial revolution ranged from large-scale factory production to completely new systems of management. The industrial revolution not applied solely to technology and production, but it also greatly effected families and the amount of time spent together. The revolution changed the standards of education and the way wars are fought forever.
