In this day and age where technology is rampant and advance, it is critical that we comprehend the possibilities that such technology has, no matter whether it is good or bad. From our very own households, we can now get connected and experience this technology first hand. No longer do we have to go to a theater to watch a movie, buy a compact disc to hear some music, or even spend an abundant amount of money to get the latest software package. With the Internet we are just two clicks away from entering the world of Internet piracy. With the vast growth of the Internet and the content found on the World Wide Web, who can be held accountable to police what each user does? Frankly, such issues not only have musicians, software creators, and movie studios in frenzy, but the United States Senate as well has shown some concern. In fact, this hot controversy has prompted the Senate to take action.
In light of this recent debate, the Senator of Maryland has hired me as a researcher to investigate and report the issues of Internet piracy so he can take a position when voting on this issue. The Senator is interested in hearing the arguments of both parties and what they think exactly constitutes piracy. Furthermore, he wants to know what individuals think about the current measures taken to prevent Internet piracy on the Information Superhighway. Due to the Senators limited knowledge of the Internet, I will explain what the Internet is and how it functions.
