I started reading “Invisible I” a book that was recommended to me by a librarian at the KPL in Kitchener-Waterloo. I have only just started but I am really intrigued. Already we know that Amanda has gone missing but we have not been given any of the details as to how, why, when and who. Another interesting part is that the series is entitled “The Amanda Project” but this story is told through the voice of Callie, one of Amanda’s friends. I find it interesting how Callie, Hal Bennet, and Nia Rivera were all friends with Amanda, but they never knew it until one day when they got called down to the office by the vice-principal who informed them that Amanda had gone missing and asked if they know where she might be. This book is full of mysteries which leaves me with more questions. For example, I found this quote in the book “Um, Mr. Thornhill, I think there’s been a mistake. We don’t even know one another.” Why would Amanda never tell each one of her friends who she is friends with? Why is she so secretive? Why is so mysterious? They had to clean the vice principals car because there was graffiti found on it, while they were cleaning his car, they started talking and got to know each other, as they will have to get along seeing as they have to solve the mystery of Amanda.
Because Hal’s, Callie’s and Nia’s lockers were defaced in a similar manner as the vice principals , Mr Thornhill he assumed they were at least in part responsible for the graffiti and decided to make them responsible for the clean up as well. It was only through the cleaning process did the 3 realize the common link is Amanda….Who is now missing, I can’t wait to see what happens next.

In the book “Invisible I”, a car is vandalised and nobody seems knows who did it. But a group of students get blamed for it. This is unfair because they didn’t really do the crime. What’s interesting though is how where the 3 students are brought together they start to get to know each other. Its then that they start to think perhaps Amanda (the missing girl) is the one who vandalised the car and the lockers. Also while cleaning Callie, one of Amanda’s friends, finds an envelope with a “totem on it” in the vice principals car. They are also learning that Amanda has not been completely truthful with them. She has lied to her friends & the school about where she lives. What other lies has she told? Where could she be? Furthermore….Who is Amanda?

In an attempt to get more information about Amanda, Nia, Hal and Callie broke into the vice principals office there were hoping to steal a key to the filing cabinet so they could get it duplicated and get the file folder on Amanda. Unfortunately it didn’t work out because there was no file on Amanda in the student records. While Hal Nia and Callie were at the school looking for Amanda’s file, they found security camera tapes. They all agreed that they could have critical footage on them and that could help answer some questions. They decided to take the tapes amd after viewing them they realized they were right. The tapes showed Amanda putting an envelope into the car. Things get even more mysterious when Callie later arrives home and finds a note from her mom addressed to her and her dad. The note read: Roger I have to leave town and I need you to look after Callie. As you know, for her own safety, I can’t tell her good-bye. I love her so much, Rogers If there is any way for you to keep an eye on here, to let her know how much I love her, I would b e so grateful.

Nia, Hal and Callie are even more determined to get answers on who and where Amanda is. They start by going to the house they knew to be hers. When they arrived at the Victorian home, and elderly gentle men said she didn’t live there and try an address a short distance away. The address given to them by the elderly fellow at the Victorian whom led them to an upper class apartment. At the front desk they asked what unit Amanda Valentino lived in. They were all very disappointed to learn there was nobody by that name. Then it occurred to them that perhaps Amanda…..may not be her real name. How would they ever find out?

Over the course of the next few days, Hal, Nia and Callie all received a note saying that they were to meet at Crab Apple Hill. Judging by the writing on the note they thought that Amanda was going to be there. Again to their dismay she didn’t show. The three of them took the opportunity to talk and compare notes. The end of the book is not what I was hoping for. As with most fictional stories the audience is generally expecting a happy ending with most questions answered and most mysteries solved. That is not the case with the “Invisible I”, The Amanda Project. The last few chapters have Nia, Hal and Callie on a continued mission to find Amanda. They come up with a plan to meet in the centre of the town on a Friday night and list all of Amanda’s places to go. Some of the places were common to each and other places were quite a surprise for each other. They visited some places together and then spread out to see alone. At the end of the night they come up with nothing…..again! Then the story takes another turn when something has happened to the VP and its caused him to be in a coma. Isis somehow related? Hal, Callie & Nia want to know so they creak into Mr. Thornhills car and find a note from Amanda. “Danger! What danger do you foresee? Holmes shook his head gravely. It would be cease to be a danger if we could define it, said he.” – Sir Arthur Conon Doyle
This note only adds more suspense and more questions for the audience as we are told to watch for Book 2, when the story on the whereabouts Amanda continues.
