Living in a world filled with new technology coming out everyday can be very overwhelming for consumers. Cell phones are one of the best examples of changes in technology today. Right now the two biggest names in phones are the iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S3. TV viewers will probably think these two phones are running for presidency, since every commercial shows one phone bashing on the other. Each phone has properties very similar to each other and have very dissimilar qualities.
Three representations of this are the phone’s screen quality, app store, and the personalization. Qualities of a cell phone screen have greatly improved in the last few years. The two differences in display for these phones are the iPhone 5’s 4” LCD display and Samsung Galaxy S3’s 4. 8” Super AMOLED screen. iPhone 5 is still using the Retina display produced from the iPhone 4. The iPhone 5’s IPS (In-Plane Switching) LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) gives the screen 326 pixels-per-inch.
LCD displays offer the most realistic colors found on screens, but it may not offer a wide contrast ratio like its rival phone. AMOLED (Active-matrix organic light-emitting diode) or OLED on the Galaxy S3 do offer the wide variety of contrast ration (darker darks and brighter brights).

Each phone has their own app store, offering almost the same thing, and will come down to preference. Galaxy S3 uses the new Android based store that merged with Google called the Google Play store. There is a lot of indie based developers creating new apps everyday for users. Because of indie developers it adds more free to play apps in the Google Play store. This store also offers a variety of movies, music, and books all at different prices. The iPhone 5 uses an app store as well and it runs off of iTunes. In this store the consumer will find more quality-priced apps and games.
Free apps can be found as well in this app store. Also iTunes offers music, movies, and books, like the Google Play store, but have a better quantity to choose from. Most of the apps in this store will need to be paid for but can produce a better experience when using them. In both app stores a massive amount of apps can be found for free that are almost the same thing as an app that would be paid for. For this reason it will not really mater which app store is being used and will just come down to what the consumer appreciates more.
Personalization for phones can make each one unique in different ways. When it comes down to personalization it varies significantly between both phones. The iPhone has personalization when it comes to all of the accessories that can be bought for the phone. Personalizing an iPhone with a case will be easy, since there are a large variety of them. There are leather cases that can make the phone sit horizontally for movie watching. Plastic cases have a vast amount of great designs in whatever category is preferred.
Otter Boxes are the biggest known cases for iPhones. These cases are known for their style and being very protective so that the phone will not break. The Galaxy S3 is not known very well for having many accessories. The S3 has more personalization when it comes to the Android software on the phone. Instead of being able to just have an app just sit on the screen or in a folder, the app might be able to be replaced with a widget. A widget can be an easier way to access an app and make the phone fit more to a certain style.
