Millions of North Americans undergo these conditions daily as they lack a great deal financially. Many think the solution to this problem is simple to provide financial aid to these less fortunate individuals. However, the root of this problem can only be destroyed upon digging deeper and recognizing the problems in the lives of underprivileged. It is commonly said, “Help the poor by giving them money”. But, the idea that giving poor people money is really the best way to help them, should be reconsidered. We should not provide poorer individuals with monetary aid because it is unknown what and where the individuals will spend their money, they will continue to be a burden on the shoulders of society and lastly, everybody will begin begging for money.
You might feel as though you have done a good deed if you provide a poor individual with money. You believe you are helping them. Right? Wrong! You are not helping them at all. Many individuals on the street turn to guns, violence and drugs for support. These substances, drugs specifically, have a large influence on the functioning of the brain. Perhaps a poor person is starving for food but when he or she receives their first ten dollars in a week they might choose to spend it on a pack of cigarettes instead of a sandwich. It is a bad decision, but most poor people have made at least one bad decision in their lives. The reality is that any little boy can approach you and beg for money to buy food and you will give him money in pity. But the same little boy can purchase drugs or even weapons with that money.

I say again, you should never give poor any money because you don’t know what they are going to buy with that money.
Secondly, poor people become dependant on begging as their primary source of income if money is repeatedly provided for them. If you earn the money for them and simply hand it over, they will continue to lean on your for support. Moreover, they will never work for their community and will always be a useless bag on the society’s back. This has a negative impact on the country’s economy as well. A positive way to help the poor would be to provide them the education and training to manage and pursue a career in their field of choice so that they are able to stand up on their own feet and be independent. So once again, by giving money to the poor, we are not helping them. In actuality, we are spoiling their future; they do not have to be poor and can be working in an adequate place of employment. Instead they are sucking the blood of the country like a mosquito. A person, whom you gave money to yesterday, may be begging for money again at the same place the next day. Therefore, by giving underprivileged individuals money, we are providing them with short-term satisfaction only, when they can get a job with your help and help the community.

Consider, for example, an unemployed person, who is aggravated from life because they can’t find a job and all they wish for is, an easy way of earning money. Now if this person witnesses some sort of financial help being offered to a poor man, then he might be tempted to go along the same path and opt to going on charity or begging. Today there are numerous services for the unemployed and the homeless. So, instead of giving money to the poor, we should encourage them to benefit from these organizations and to work. It is well known that money does not come in easily and you have to work hard for it. Apparently some people are against working hard and turn on to easy ways of obtaining money, one of them being begging. Helping such people not only sets a bad example for the society but also makes idle and not very useful people.
