Is the Power absolute? When people talk about the presidents of the United States, or presidents of the city bank, what do they usually come to mind? Definitely it’s the power. But what does power mean? Now we are not talking about the energy. Here the power means the ability or right to control people or events. Do those people have power? Of course they do. They have great power over the people and the events. However, are they really as strong as we thought, or can they control everything they want? Here I’m going to talk about it both in the fiction—Handmaid’s tale and movie—Matrix.
Power is very strongly represented in Handmaid’s tale and Matrix. Handmaid’s tale describes a dystopian world called Gilead, where all the women are controlled by the commanders. They are ranked in different classes. Handmaids are one of the classes belonging to the commanders like slaves, and their only duty is to have sex with commanders and give birth to the babies. In this society, commanders have the great power. While in Matrix, there is another dystopian world, where human beings are under the control of computers. They not only live in a cyber world, but also they themselves are cyber as well. Unfortunately nobody knows about this truth except a few freedom fighters—who can live in the real world. Agent, which is a computer program called sentient program, have the great power over human beings. But no matter how strong the power is, we will see through the fiction and the movie that it’s not necessary that power belongs to one person and he can have everything under his control. Powerful people have weakness that we hardly notice. Like the commander in the fiction, he himself is confined too. He himself is being cheated too. And in Matrix, the computer program is also restricted and the real power is not belonging to the computer, but to the one, Neo, or we can say is belonging to the real humans. So in my opinion, power is not absolute.
The Essay on Mind Control People World Information
Humankind has always had a thirst for power; over its peers, environment and spiritual beliefs. To quench this thirst it has gone as far as genocide; but has often employed more subtle techniques, such as mind control. In today's socio-economical and political worlds, mind control plays a key role in dictating tastes and lifestyles; as well as controlling political thoughts, views, and people's ...
People might wonder why commander is confined. Gilead is a world of Commanders. They are the leaders, how could they be confined. But the fact is, they are. As there are so many absurd rules in Gilead, the commanders have to obey them too. They cannot do whatever they want. When they have the women controlled, they are sort of being controlled too. The author writes in the book:” he wants me to play Scrabble with him and kiss him as if I meant it.”(Here “I” is the handmaid, Offred) This is forbidden in Gilead, but the commander still does it because he feels lonely. He has no one to talk to. He’s not allowed to talk to the handmaid. His wife doesn’t understand him. He’s lack of communication. The only thing between he and Offred is sex. As there’s no love between them, the commander wants love, that’s why he asks Offred to kiss him as if she meant it. Now we see that the commander is confined by the rules. But he doesn’t like it so he breaks the rule occasionally. Because he knows power cannot bring him freedom, power cannot bring him love. Under the freedom and love, power is nothing to him.
It is all the same in Matrix. Matrix is a computer-generated dream world built to keep humans under controlled, in order to change a human being into battery. It’s a horrible world. But the most horrible thing is that people don’t know the truth. Their eyes are blinded by the matrix. They are completely under the control of matrix. It seems that computer has the invincible power. However, the power is restricted by the very man—the man who was born inside when the matrix was first built. He had the ability to change whatever he wanted, to remake the matrix as he saw fit. It was him who freed the first few human beings and told them the truth. And they continued to fight with the computers for all their lives. The problem is the first man. If there were no first man, nobody would know the truth. But without the first man, where would computer get energy? Machine cannot work without energy. That’s the restriction of the matrix. It exists right from the beginning.
The Essay on Brave New World Vs Matrix
Since the begging of humanity, mankind tries to predict the soon to be future. Many scientific books and movies thrilled readers and viewers with visions of the future world. The book "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley and the movie "Matrix" directed by The Wachowski Brothers tried to put forth-such views. The strongest theme in both the book and the movie was the idea that as humanity progresses ...
Not only power is not absolute, but also anyone or anything of power looks very strong can actually be very weak.
When we read the novel, we thought commander is strong. He controls Offred. He owns Offred as a property. Theoretically, he should be the only person to make her pregnant. But in fact, what does Offred do behind him? She has sex with another man, gets pregnant and pretends that it’s his baby. Does the commander know about it? No. What do they handmaids say? “Well,” she says, with firmness; no, more than that, a clenched look, like a purse snapping shut, “we just won’t tell him, will we?” A great powerful man in the society is being cheated like a child by the handmaids who are controlled by commander himself. Isn’t that ironic? So what’s the use of power if he cannot find out the cheating? The commander is so weak, so powerless under the cheating of Offred.
While in the Matrix, most people who watched movie thought agents are powerful (Agent is a computer program called sentient program), because they can move in and out of any soft ware of their system. So Anyone in the cyber world unplugged is potentially an agent. But the truth is that the real power belongs to the human beings, belongs to Neo—the one. How do we know it? In the movie, Morpheus (the leader of the humans group) told Neo: ” They will never be as strong or as fast as you can be.” So it is Neo who will eventually save the world. But Neo has to free his mind to believe that everything is unreal. It’s hard for him to believe. And it’s hard for them to fight against the agents. Still Neo is improving little by little. And in the end, when he completely frees his mind, he sees through the world—a completely cyber world. Then he realizes that agents are nothing to him. That is the time he explodes his energy and beat the agents. Before we saw agents were so strong that they caught Morpheus, shot Neo and they were everywhere. But they lost eventually. After all, they are just machines. They are weak under the power of humans.
The Term Paper on Using Double Agents And Problems Connected With It part 1
Using Double Agents and Problems Connected with It Intelligence means many things to different people. Social scientists associate eight interpretations to the expression. Statecraft, or more mundanely government, requires knowledge both in a general and in a particular sense. Intelligence in government usually has a more restricted meaning than just information and its collection, processing and ...
All the examples above show that power is not absolute. Sometimes power can mean restriction. Sometimes power can mean weakness. A man with power doesn’t mean he’s omnipotent. Nor are the commanders. Nor are the agents. Nor is anybody.
