The Ferment is the conflict between the Muslims and the Westerners. The crisis within Islam involves a battle over leadership, and the challenge is not only to win over hearts and minds, but to avoid being silenced or chased out of the country. The battle is also for one purpose only and that is to establish the religion of Islam in its totality. The problem is with the US and Israel, and it is not a cultural problem. Rather, it is a result of the Israeli invasion of the Middle East and the U. S.
unqualified support for that invasion. But since the 1991 Gulf War, the US has become directly involved in the conflict. This is why violence has been directed towards the U. S. Jihad is one of the most important elements in the Islamic ferment. Jihad is “holy war.” It means the legal, compulsory, communal effort to expand the territories ruled by Muslims at the expense of territories ruled by non-Muslims.
The purpose of jihad is not directly to spread the Islamic faith but to extend sovereign Muslim power. Jihad did have two meanings. The first holds that Muslims who interpret their faith differently are infidels and therefore legitimate targets of jihad. This is why Americans and Israelis find themselves victims of jihadist aggression. The second meaning rejects the legal definition of jihad as armed conflict and tells Muslims to withdraw from the worldly concerns to achieve spiritual depth. There is a conflict between the Israelis and the Arabs in the Middle East.

Both the Israelis and the Arabs claim land in Palestine as theirs by ancestral rights and war has broken out between them. All of this conflict is the result of a natural progression of Islam. It has grown through the years and embellished into a terrible head.
