JFK John Fitzgerald Kennedy was the 35 th president of the United States. He was the youngest man ever elected to be president, and was also the youngest to die while in office. I feel that a holiday recognizing his life should be issued. I personally think he was the best president to serve our country. There are many reasons why he should be remembered. He started many organizations, stood for civil rights, wanted to rid the world of communism, and was assassinated.
He manned together the Peace Corps, a group of people sent to other countries to help with the poor and starving people. He wanted America to help and assist developing countries which where having major troubles. With this help it would keep the troubled citizens from turning towards communism. He also headed the way for Alliance for Progress a group set up to unite the free countries to help spread the benefits of a democracy government instead of turning to communism. Civil rights were also one of his goals. He wished America to be the first nation dedicated to the revolution of civil rights.
He laid plans to help the poor and show them how to give themselves a better life. He took vigorous action in calling for new civil rights legislation. Soon after his inauguration Kennedy permitted a band of Cuban exiles armed and trained to invade their homeland. It was an attempt to overthrow Fidel Castro. Soon after the Soviet Union renewed its campaign against West Berlin. Kennedy in reply enforced the Berlin garrison and increased the military strength.
