The father of John Marshall babysat these two girls one of them named mary and he always told them stories of his son. Then on day they meet him and John falls in love with Mary. John then awkwardly proposes to Mary, she was caught by surprise and said no. John got on his horse and rode off crying because he felt so bad that he had been turned down.
Mary said that she had meant to say yes but was just caught by surprise. Mary’s sister then cut a piece of her hair and went off to look for John. She found John and offered him the snippet of hair as reassurance that Mary did accept. So they got married and Mary always wore a locket around her neck containing the snippet of hair. Year later John grew sick. He felt sharp pain with any sudden movement he made.
After so long he could not bear the pain any longer so he went to Philedalphia to seek out the best doctor known at the time. John was diagnosed as having stones in his bladder. He nervously accepted to go into surgery and it was said that over one thousand stones were removed. Then Mary grew sick. It was near Christmas time and John was losing more hope as he saw that she wasn’t getting better. On Christmas eve she took the locket off and put it around John’s neck.
