Allowing homosexuals to marry would further de-moralize our nation. Our society as a whole is headed in the wrong direction, that needs to be changed, and accepting a union between a homosexual couple would only perpetuate our society’s problems. Proof of this can be seen in the attached Gallup Poll, which surveyed Americans to find out what Americans really think-a marriage is between a man and a woman-no one else. The main purpose of marriage is to be able to procreate-that is why God created a male and female as two different entities-and clearly, a homosexual couple cannot procreate in their relationship. A marriage should be fruitful, among this is bearing the fruits of children.
The Catholic Church believes homosexual acts are sinful because sexual acts out of marriage are sinful; therefore any homosexual act is a sin because it is out of marriage. Thus, homosexual couples should not be allowed to marry because the true meaning of marriage is non-existent for them. Advocates for gay-rights may claim that they are losing out on financial benefits that are granted for heterosexual couples. They are referring to the ability of joint taxation, and while homosexuals cannot file for joint taxation, it doesn’t amount to very much in the end. Joint taxation will save a marriage a couple thousand dollars, and really, it isn’t that big of an amount when you consider that people are making a lot more than that every year. So that argument has no substantive force.

Another big issue brought forth by gay-rights advocates concerns health care and medical decision-making. Family blood is more substantial than your life partner. Family members know how to take care of you because they have been doing it, in most cases, since you were born. So, when a decision concerning your life unfortunately has to be made, your family members should be held responsible because they are the ones who know you best and understand your wishes. God forbid you have to make the decision of whether to “pull the plug” or not, it should be left to your immediate family first to make that decision, not a life partner. The society we now live in has become more and more de-valued and de-moralized.
We cannot have our children raised in a household that is different from the norm and we cannot have them subjected to being raised by a homosexual couple. According to Ron Crews, President of the Massachusetts Family Institute, “every reputable study done to date has affirmed that children do best, by whatever measure is used, when they have a married mom and dad. Deliberately depriving a child of a mother or father is cruel and unfair.” Enough said. So when thinking about legalizing gay marriage, one should think that it is wrong and it should be not allowed in an already chaotic society.
Homosexual people do deserve to be treated with respect and dignity, for they are human and none of us are perfect. However, our society does not revolve around a specific group of peoples’ desires, and therefore, we cannot and should not meet their desires of allowing a marriage license.
