Journal Article Critique I. INTRODUCTION This journal article studies about the “Asian and Euro-American parents’ ethnotheories of play and learning: Effects on preschool children’s home routines and school behaviour.” It was written by Parminder Parmar, Sara Harkness, and Charles M. Super; Pamar is from the Pennsylvania State University, and the other two researchers came from the University of Conneticut, both universities can be found in the USA. The article is studying and discussing about the different views of euro- America parents from Asian parents on their view on play. Because it was said that Euro-Americans believe that play is one of the major contributors to the cognitive development of the child. But as for Asian parents they usually put academics first before play, and give little importance to it. With Asian parents play is more of a way for the child to gain social and physical skills. II. SUMMARY The researchers conducted a test in the northeast Connecticut, where the children of the both Euro-Americans and Asian parents can be found. They started out the test with questionnaires, and then interviewed the parents after. They use the questionnaires with 25 original questions, to see the beliefs of the parents and their stand on with the subject of play.
And after 4 weeks they collected the texts and combined and organized the results by using a table to analyze it. The table is composed with the subscale of academic, art, athletics, compliance and social. Based on the results they have gathered, both kinds of parents attitude on academic is very similar, and not far from each other because the only difference is 000.1. On art the Euro-Americans gave more importance to it compared with Asian parents. Like the arts, the Euro-American parents also gave and have a positive attitude on athletics. And with the compliance both kinds of parents gave positive attitude towards it. And lastly with the social it is also almost the same because the score was 5.36 for the Euro-American and with the Asian 5.22. In the interview, the results were more different from each other. For the Euro-Americans they were more open to play because they believe that it helps with the cognitive development of the child and the development of the individual. The Euro-American parents also believe that they are partners of their child’s development and stress their role in with the growth of the child. It was also said that the children who are in the Euro-American parents have more toys compared to Asian children.
The Essay on Euro American Chinese Asian Workers
Today immigrants come from places far removed from those that sent the large majority of earlier immigrants. As Asian Americans increase in numbers and in visibility, th question of immigration is examined with common patterns of immigration as well as the basis fro the similarities. In the late 1840's and early 1880's, 370, 000 Chinese immigrated to Hawaii and California. They were the first to ...
But for the Asian parents they believe that play is more of the physical development of the child. Also they give fewer toys to their children, because they believe that academics come first. That is why when they buy toys for their children they prefer it to be educational toys. Also with the play area of the children, with the Euro-Americans they have a bigger place for the children to play or they give a separate room for the play, but as for the Asian parents they give little space for play. According to the results that was found with the teachers the Asian children rarely interacts with the other children and they don’t have that much ethics when you talk to them. But they tend to excel when it comes to academics and are less aggressive and doesn’t complain that much, compared to Euro-Americans. And with the Euro-American children they are very communicative with other people. III. CRITIQUE We all have our own countries, but we live in different places which makes us immigrants of that country. That is why in this Journal Article I choose to critique it on the immigrant there, which is their location. There are two immigrants used in this study one is the Euro-American and the Asians. Immigrants are the people who live in a country that they are not citizens to, and that is where they create a new beginning. The immigrants might get influenced by the culture of the place they live in, but most bicultural adjustments are done instead of assimilation. This assimilation happens when people abandon his/her own beliefs and try to immerse themselves in the culture of that foreign land. But that is just the case of other people; some of the immigrants who are in the stage of adaption can still be native in a different country (Johnson, 2012).
The Term Paper on Children today prefer to play computer games to traditional games
People nowadays are busy with their own lives by spending much time on their gadgets like tablets, iPads and laptops including the children. They are either doing their job or playing games because of habit on the gadgets and forgot the traditional games. It is agreed to say that children today prefer to play computer games to traditional games. For instance, children nowadays did not participate ...
Based on Diakanwa, immigrants tends to separate themselves as they adjust to their new ethnical communities, that is why sometimes they fail to learn the English language and it’s culture. No wonder the results even after 20 years of being an immigrant in American they still fail to create a sentence in English. Asian parent’s have a hard time adjusting in American that’s why they are not able to adapt to the culture properly even after 6-10 years of staying in that foreign country (2011).
So if you look at the situation of the Asian parent’s maybe it’s just the ones in America who thinks like that; because they haven’t conducted a study in the Asian countries with American parents. The results might still vary with the location of the immigrants, because some of them hasn’t adjusted well to the country they live in.
