For simple assault among juveniles there has been little progress in declines since 1980, it has actually rose 156% between 1980 and 1997. There was little decline through 2002 only to rise again in 2006. The past two years since 2006 it has decreased by 10% in 2008, but still is substantially higher since its low in 1980 at still about 146% rise. Violent crimes have been on the rise for both male and female Juveniles ages 10-17. Although juveniles males have increased every year since 1980 to its highest peak in 1994 it has been on a steady decline.
While the females although the number of arrests (total) are fewer than that of males, the females have been on a steady rise increasing every year since its low in the early 1980’s, reaching its highest peak in 2008. Following the rates for both groups showing males at a 43% increase to that of the females who were at a 51% increase. The juvenile female arrest rate for aggravated assault did not decrease since its highest peak in the 1990’s as that of the males. The arrest rate for the juvenile male rose only 4% since 1980 while the females rose 80% from its 1980 rate.

While the arrest rate for simple assault nearly doubled in males between 1980 and 2008, the female rate more than tripled. Although arrest trends by gender were about the same for robbery, all other trends such as drug offences and aggravated assault showed declines in males while females were on the rise. These gender differences also occurred in adults for charges of assault. While the adult males arrests for aggravated assault fell 10% females only fell 1%, while for simple assault males stayed about the same, females rose 17%.
Therefore the female proportion of arrests for both types of assaults grew, it is likely that this disproportionate growth in assaults by females is related to the factors that affected both female adults and female juveniles. With the members of minorities the racial composition of the U. S. juvenile population ages 10-17 were 78% white, 16% black, 5% Asian/Pacific Islander, and 1% American Indian. While the whites greatly outnumbered all other Minorities Black juveniles made up the majority of arrests for violent crimes in 2008. Black being at 52% while whites were at 47%.
For property crimes, whites made up the majority there with 65% while the blacks made up 33%. It appeared that black youths committed more of the violent crimes, in the crime index rate for 2008 arrest per 100,000 juveniles in the racial group. Black youths made up of (926) crimes 5 times that of whites with (178).
The only explanation I could think of for such large differences in the number of arrests and crimes committed is the economic differences between the whites and blacks. Blacks are typically raised in poor ghetto areas while whites are not, causing different life styles and living conditions.
With the assessment of tracking juvenile arrests, you see the trends in crime and how often that specific crime is committed. You can get a better understanding of what provisions and interventions have worked and what have not, so that in the future there can be more programs that can specifically target a certain crime and have more success and less repeat of the past.
