Juvenile Delinquency 5.11 Juvenile Probation Officer is responsible for preparation and presentation reports to the court, service providers and various commitment programs. Juvenile Probation Officer also documents and provides case management and supervision of clients placed on supervision, as it is foreseen by the statute, department procedures and policies as well as Quality Assurance Standards concerning probation, conditional release, commitment, to mention a few. Juvenile Probation Officer also is responsible for maintenance and update of case files on all delinquent young people per department of Juvenile Justice policies, standards, procedures, and appropriate Quality Assurance Standards. Juvenile Probation Officer coordinates staffing (also multi-disciplinary staffing), various services as necessary, provides information for Interstate Compact on Juveniles, appears in court with necessary information and reports, collects necessary information as foreseen by policy, statute, procedures and Quality Assurance Standards, etc. The difference between probation and non-residential community treatment is as follows: probation is a sentence that may be imposed by a court in lieu of incarceration (the person who committed crime has served only part of his/her sentence in a jail (or hasnt served at all).
In other words, defendant who has been found guilty of a crime is released into the community under certain conditions (e.g., doing community service, paying a fine, etc) and under supervision of a probation officer, while non-residential community treatment implies treatment ad supervision for juveniles, monitoring the delinquents and providing intensive counseling, educational counseling, family therapy, etc and focusing on treatment rather than punishment (Janice, p.138).
