Arthur’s Reasons Concerning War Since the beginning of time, the chaotic and barbaric fighting called war has been and will happen until the end of the world, that is, unless mankind smartens up. As T. H. White puts it on pages 631-632,” They were always saying that the present one (war) was to be the last, and afterwards there was to be a heaven.
They were always to rebuild such a new world as never was seen. When the time came, however, they were too stupid.” At the beginning of Arthur’s reign he dealt with psychotic men such as King Lot that waged wars for pure sport. Since they had enough money to do so, they would buy expensive armor and weaponry and would kill for game. In his old age, just before succumbing to death, Arthur ponders deeply about the causes of war. It takes him his entire lifetime to figure out the answer to stop the madness. And just when he figures this out, it is way too late to take action upon his conclusion.
Although war is waged for many reasons on the surface, Arthur at long last surmises that it all stems from one, true foundation. After perusing reasons such as people that “have” or “have not,” fear of dishonest people, and ancestral feuds, Arthur finally deduces that the true reason for war is land boundaries. The most sufficient explanation for the idea of war based on the “haves” and the “have-nots” is that of Arthur versus Mordred. On page 632, it was simply stated, “I have, and Mordred has not.” Mordred grew up in shame.
The Essay on Morte D Arthur Camelot Mordred King
An Epic Hero for Modern Times In about 1470, Thomas Malory finished Morte d Arthur, the first if many legends written about King Arthur, even in modern times, King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table are favorite subjects in movies, books, and plays. Oftentimes this is so because the medieval period in general, and King Arthur in particular, have an air of mystery, romance, fantasy, and ...
He is an illegitimate child with a horrible woman for a mother. Consequently, Modred was jealous of Arthur’s happiness and ability to be justified. Mordred’s jealousy of Arthur causes him to begin a war against Arthur and if this were the true reason for war, similar statements can be said for all wars. This type of war is instigated by possessiveness and greed. Arthur disproves this idea because the solution to ending war would be for everyone to either have or not to have. This idea in present-day terms would be called communism.
Furthermore, as the public knows, true communism cannot be attained. Suspicion of neighboring leaders not telling the truth is yet another one of Arthur’s ideas of why war is set off. It is a fault of the human body to not always tell the truth. Arthur thought that this particular characteristic of human nature might be his answer to the problem, but it was not. Other than Lancelot, not many men had a respectable and honorable word.
Since different nations were frightened of one another, some having certain feelings of superiority and others of inferiority, wars were fought if Arthur told the people to do so. It can be summed up in the indication that because separate nations were suspicious and fearful, they had no assurance in working together to attain a peaceful world. This is why the occurrence of wars was expected by the community. Subsequently, Arthur figured that all wars must be because of ancestral disputes and can be drawn all the way back to Cain and Abel. Mordred was not fighting a war against Arthur for himself; he was fighting a war for Morgause who was fighting a war for her mother who was fighting a war against King Uther Pendragon and all his antecedents.
Arthur believed that all fighting was rooted from the past and can be extinguished if the reasons can be forgotten. But this will never occur because in every war that is what the leader says will happen. It is an ongoing cycle that is doomed to exist. After his entire life, Arthur is graced with the wisdom about warfare and why it transpires incessantly: land boundaries among men. This is the reality about why wars began and will never cease.
The Essay on War Soldiers Home Fighting
Explain The Changing Attitudes Of British Soldiers And Civilians Towards The War When war broke out in 1914 soldiers were ready and eager to fight a war they believed would be over by Christmas. They volunteered to beat the Germans, to fight for King and country, to protect their land and families and they believed it was their duty. There was also huge public pressure to join up and objectors ...
Men create boundaries throughout the land and fight over these boundaries. Meanwhile, this is extremely idiotic considering these lines do not even truly exist. With this in mind, one can understand Arthur’s final assumption on page 639, “How mad the frontiers had seemed to Lyo-Lyok, and would to Man if he could learn to fly.” To Lyo-Lyok these boundaries look unreasonable because when she flies in the air over the land it seems like men are fighting over something that is imaginary. If men could just forget about the limits and all live in one unified world, then peace would be managed.
Because humans are fated to fail and always will live in turmoil, there will always be war. During Arthur’s reign, he tried with all his capacity to free the world from evil and wickedness. He was tragically destined to fail despite his efforts. After blindly attempting to rescue the human race, he is conclusively awarded with the answer to his question just prior to his death. Mankind is not continually at war because of jealousy, greed, fear, suspicion, or ancestral feuds. People are because of petty geography.
It seems insignificant, while at the same time it is the basis for the way the world works.
