LESS COMMUNICATION HAS LEAD WATERSIDE IN TROUBLE
In February 1998 Mr. Karim who is Australian citizen but Bangladeshi origin, by revamping his business focused on the new area of student counseling and grooming who wanted to study in Australia. Waterside Counseling Group was registered was registered in Australia as a sole proprietor but its main operation center is in Dhaka. The name of this counseling organization is just same as big consulting firm in Australia. Waterside Counseling Group has a small representative branch in Australia. Waterside Group main function was to help students in application fill up and various stages they start for applying for different colleges. Waterside Group gives money back guarantee for which they earned lots of profit but in trouble. Soon they operate outside Dhaka in Noakhali and Barisal. Mr. Karim is a faulty in Western International University (WIU).
So he hired graduates to work there and also took Mr. Tarek Rahman as executive director. Mr. Rahman was supposed to give the Training and Management Consulting unit what was a new SBU and it was operated separately from the Waterside. Mr. Rahman was not a partner rather he was paid share of profit. Mr. Rahman was pleased with that. As all the employees were from the same background and the culture was just like the western ideals like he espoused was the egalitarian atmosphere so the environment was so fun-filled, cracking of jokes, birthday celebration and lunch together etc. The structure of organization was so highly unstructured and organic. Mr. Karim has a Charismatic personality and believed in team work and empowerment, but in Mr. Rahman felt that there was no real empowerment and Mr. Karim took many important decisions by himself. For this reason money was spent on different events when students demand the sponsorship what he did solely. Lunch was subsidized and employees were given the gym membership. The laid back approach has increased the number of employees in 47 but the productivity of them was not so high but it had a good impression on customer that there are lots of well smartly dressed people in the office.
Following the lead of Britain from where many of the original settlers came, workers in various occupations banded together to form unions. Ship writers, boat builders, tailors, bakers and carpenters were among the first craft unions form in Australia before 1848. By forming an association workers could obtain better wages and working conditions. However the employers wanted the highest profit ...
Than Mr. Rahman find a foreign consultant Ms. Jane Doherty to see whether the organization structure could be improved for this reason she going around asking question to all about the work they performed but she didn’t have the full cooperation with all the staff as the understood that their laziness will be discovered and may be insulted. The business continued without trouble till end of 2001 but when the customers for student counseling was increasing than Mr. Rahman assumed that there may be huge problem with VISA. But he ignored that as that was not his concern. In February the trouble started when the student from Barisal and Noakhali started coming and demanding their money back as they failed to get the VISA and Admission. The reason was Noakhali and Barisal unit had been taking additional customers without even informing the head office. Now the students are demanding their money back which is approximately 25 lakhs taka that is huge for this Waterside Consulting Group to pay off. For this reason Mr. Karim once again decided to take action single handedly and to cope with this he fired 6 of his officials. Some of them were working under Mr. Rahman. But Mr. Rahman ensured that under all of his employees will get payments on regular basis. For quite Mr. Tarek with his vision set up a Youth Development Forum which he registered under Society’s Registration Act for underprivileged youth as nonprofit organization.
Coping with responsibilities can turn single’s life into a hectic and even unbearable experience. There are several reasons why students drop out of college because of the following reasons: they can’t afford tuition fees, they prefer to work, and they fail the course.
