I am sure we all know the story of the race between the tortoise and the hare. The moral of that story is that you do not have to be the quickest to be the winner. Being cunning and using one’s brains to the maximum often leads to gains over trying to run too fast and then stopping at the wrong moments.
I am glad the Nigerian government has overruled the judgement over Amina. It goes to show the rest of the world that we are not
barbarians after all.
For those who believe in the inter-connectedness of things. and I mean ALL things. The evolving situation in the Netherlands must be a bit puzzling and worrying. I have no desire to examine this situation in minute details. The thing is that I tend to worry because I try to project into the future and read meanings behind events.
My worry comes from the fact that if a person who has had no power is suddenly given power without being advised and educated on how to utilise it: The result is oftentimes chaos, disorder and in extreme situations, anarchy.
All might turn out right in the end, but before this happens, a lot would have gone wrong first. There are corrections to be made in various organisations and institutions here, it is true, but some people are making the changes needed only in one direction forgetting that one’s actions tend to boomerang back at the initiator. Did the violent crime occur before a harsh punishment was given or was the form of punishment so harsh that people did not care any more and if they committed crime did not care how violent it was?
Let us all, no matter our leaning, consider, better still re-consider what the effects of whatever action we take might be.
The word of a poem I learnt long ago kept coming to my mind as I sit writing this. I will write the most popular part of that poem
“..Turning and turning in the widening gyre.
The FALCON cannot hear the FALCONER
Things fall apart the centre cannot hold…..”
Let us listen to those who know better and do things in moderation.
Till next month. Keep your chins high; remember who you are and your worth. No matter your situation.
