The Principal Cairns West State School Manunda Cairns 4870 Dear Sir, I am writing to register my application for the position of teachers aid, advertised in the Cairns Post on Saturday 22 nd of March. I am currently working part time at The Woolshed Chargrill and Saloon bar, which I own with my husband, in an administrative and personnel role, and would like to become independent of the business by transferring and using my skills in a school environment. The position is attractive to me because working within school hours and holidays would fit in with the needs of my own family. SC 1: I have a broad range of skills and a strong background in administration.
I understand the unpredictable nature of children, and their behavioural patterns, intellectual abilities and emotional needs. I am able to efficiently and effectively communicate and execute tasks, which I do on a daily basis with staff, patrons and clients. I have a genuine interest in children, having participated in a community programme helping out with disabled and mentally handicapped children, and I also did voluntary work at the Cairns Base Hospital on the paediatric ward, which not only exposed me to the sick, but to different cultures, and children who find themselves in difficult family circumstances with unique needs. SC 2: I have assisted with many school activities with my children i. e. book reading, art and craft, a supervisory role on school excursions, cleaning and maintaining equipment and sport, and have a very clear understanding of school policies.

SC 3: During my career I have worked both as a a member of a team, and also in a Manager/Supervisory role, in which I used many skills like sensitivity, tact, organising, planning, confidentiality and empathy when counselling staff or problem solving i. e. personal problems, negotiating hours and wage packages, staff appraisals. SC 4: Due to the unpredictable nature of patrons effected by alcohol, I have an understanding of the importance of workplace health and safety policies for both staff and patrons, and its implementation on a day to day basis. I understand that you have to be pro- active, and operate within ridged guidelines due to the huge responsibility of caring for other people’s children. SC 5: I am keen to broaden my training in new areas, not only to enhance my value as an employee in the school environment and support the students, but it will also enhance my effectiveness as a mother.
During my career I have trained and covered many skills to qualify me for this position, and have been a trainer my self. I look forward to your reply.
