Best Advice?
Good advice can always help a person, one way or another. The best advice I have ever received was from a basketball coach I knew when I was a little younger. I can clearly remember his words, and as I grow up his words make more and more sense. His exact words were: “If you want something, you have to do this one thing. Work. You can just be good if you want to, but if you want to be great then you have to work harder than everyone else. You have to be willing to do what others will not be willing to do. For example, a thief stealing money who is willing to kill will be much more successful than a thief who is not willing to kill. Not that killing is good, but it’s the fact that he is willing to do what others will not that puts him at a higher position.”
How is this the best advice that I’ve received? Think about it, this really does apply to almost anything you want in life. Whether you are a sports player or wanting to get straight A’s you have to work hard to earn it. If you are a sports player and you practice more than anyone else, then you will obviously be better than anyone else. If you are willing to wake up at 5 A.M every morning while your rival is not, you will surpass him. Same applies for the good grades. If you are willing to go home and study everyday more than anyone else in your class, than that will make your grades better than your original if not the whole class’s. The effort that you put in and how badly you want something will greatly impact your success or failure.
The Essay on Over Paid Athletes Athlete Work Word
Anthony Lofton English 10134 April 2005 Argument I believe professional athletes are overpaid. These athletes are making millions of dollars to have fun and play. They are getting paid to do what elementary kids do every day. Professional athletes are should be paid about sixty to ninety thousand a year. The reason I say this much is because they are at a professional level and have worked hard to ...
As you are learning more and more, you will come to realize that all of the people you learn about in school or the people that are famous have worked harder than people around them. Eminem (Rapper) is an example. His childhood was bitter and harsh. He never gave up on rapping and he always practiced writing down rhymes or thinking about them in his head. He has piles and piles of papers that he calls “ideas” where whenever he gets a chance he would just write down things that are going on in his life as a rap song. This way, not only does he express his feelings, but he lets out anything that he is unhappy about. Because of this many people can relate to what is going on in his life and people understand his music. He wrote lines after lines of rhythmic stories of the situations he has gone through. He never lost focus on what his goal was and in the end he reached it.
Another reason why this is the best advice is the fact that when you hear it, you think to yourself if this is true. It makes perfect sense and is quite easily understandable. But there is also more meaning to those words than just to work harder than other people. It also lets you know that anything you don’t earn will not be as treasured. Think about it, if you were to work day after day saving up money to buy the car you always wanted and you finally achieved it, wouldn’t you treasure it more than just a car that a person gave you as a gift? I’m not saying that a car as a gift isn’t something to treasure, but it is true that if you earned your money minute by minute you would be very careful not to damage it or dirty the car you’ve bought.
Now what’s the best advice that I’ve ever given? Well I’ve given this same advice to many different people. I tell people to stand up for themselves. Sometimes when I see a fellow classmate or student who is getting pushed around, I will tell them not to let people do that. Students need to say “Stop” instead of being scared of what the bully will do to them. I’m sure if the bully were to try and pull something on the victim; sometimes a person in the classroom will stand up for that victim. But that isn’t always the case, so you have to learn how to stand up for you self and not depend on others. In life there are those who help you get up when you fall, but there are always those waiting for the moment you fall and to try and keep you down.
