A human’s transformational learning cycle also consist of four stages. These four stages include; seeing and understanding that you have a meaningful problem, challenging the problem, figuring out a way to resolve the problem, and research a new way to look at things or way to do things pertaining to your specific problem. For many of us; transforming or changing things in our lives can be difficult, but in order to become the best person that we can be, we must commit to this learning cycle before we can recognize progression or growth. I am currently going through my own transformational learning cycle with my son.
He was born with complications that required me to potentially put my dreams on hold. Putting my dreams on hold was a problem because time was just passing us by and I did not want to wait until it was too late. I challenged this problem by attending Harris School of Business and obtaining a diploma in legal services. With this diploma I can work at any law firm or office. Come to find out; I still have a problem because this field is not in demand for entry-level employees, so I am now attending Ashford University to obtain my Bachelor’s degree in Applied Behavioral Science.
I am hoping that by obtaining my Bachelor’s Degree, I will slightly resolve my problem and be able to find work in a field that I enjoy. Even though I will still have to continue my education and obtain my Master’s Degree if I want to be an extremely successful Child/Youth Psychologist, I know that I can only take this process one step at a time. Now that I have re-enrolled in school; I am making it a priority to incorporate positive activities that will help me achieve success into my life.

Specializing in children and youth will help me transform into a stronger mother and knowledgeable teacher. Jack Mezirow was a sociologist who researched adults that were going through a transformational process. His research determined that there are seven phases that occur during this transformation process. These phases include; experiencing a disorienting dilemma, self-examination, critical assessment of assumptions, recognizing that have gone through a similar process, exploring that process, formulating a plan of action and reintegration.
I have personally been through each one of these phases. My plan of action is to obtain the necessary Degrees that I need to become a successful child/youth Psychologist. Now I am in the Reintegration phase where I am attending school and trying to learn everything that will teach me how to be an effective psychologist. By completing my goal to become a psychologist; I will have fulfilled my dream and I will be exceedingly pleased with myself.
