Ali applied for a new job but as his self-esteem was low and he considered himself a failure and unworthy of success, he was already convinced that he was not going to get the job. He had a negative attitude towards himself and believed that the other applicants were better and more qualified than him. Ali manifested this attitude due to his pessimistic outlook towards life and the resultant negative experiences with job interviews. His mind was occupied with discouraging thoughts and fears concerning the job for the whole week before the job interview. He was convinced that he would be rejected. During the whole week he did nothing except whining and complaining of his bad luck. On the day of the interview he got up late and to his horror he discovered that the shirt he had planned to wear was dirty and the other one needed ironing. As it was already too late, he went out wearing a shirt full of wrinkles. During the interview he was tense, displayed an unenthusiastic attitude, worried about his shirt, and felt hungry because he did not get enough time to have breakfast. All this distracted his mind and made it difficult for him to focus on the interview. His overall overt behavior made a bad impression and consequently he materialized his fear and did not get the job.
Shahid applied for the same job too but approached the matter in a different way. He was quite certain of getting the job. During the week preceding the interview he often visualized himself making a good impression and attaining success. In the evening before the interview he prepared the clothes he was going to wear and went to sleep a little earlier. On the day of the interview he woke up earlier than usual, had ample time to eat breakfast and then to arrive to the interview before the scheduled time. He got the job because he made a good impression owing to his high self-esteem and a positive attitude towards life. Of course he had the proper qualifications for the job too but so had Ali.
The Essay on How to Prepare for Job Interview
First impression matters a lot and this is especially true in case of interviews. Interview is a chance through which an individual aspiring for a job can create a lasting impression on his/her employer and secure the job he/she desired for. An individual preparing for a job interview should not only hone his/her academic skills but also concentrate on his/her physical appearance and etiquette. ...
Above is a glimpse from the lives of our youth- people who are around us, their unhappiness, their difficulties and pitiful states that are nothing but self created miseries. At a closer look at our surroundings one realizes that there are two types of people in this world and they have two distinct attitudes towards life. Type one always looks to the bright side of life. They are full of hope and are not easily depressed by the disappointments and failures of life. They are the optimists. There are others who always look to the sordid side of life. They are full of disgust, rejection, despair and construct gloomy excuses for every little incident that takes place in their life. They are the pessimists. It is a tragic fact that the pessimistic attitude towards life is dispersing its roots among the youth at a tremendous velocity.
It sounds so cool to say, ‘Oh! I’m so depressed today.’ This is followed by the other ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’, phony sympathy and the attention of similar self-centered people, living in their own dream worlds with their very own self created and imagined problems. The question that arises at this juncture is as to what is actually wrong with us. Why have we become directionless and disoriented? Why have we totally lost focus in our lives? A life that solely revolves around the motto of ‘Eat, drink and be merry’ is bound to lead to a feeling of emptiness and worthlessness which camouflages itself in the guise of pessimism and decadence.
It is well said that truth is stranger than fiction. Self-acceptance and a true knowledge of our strengths as well as weaknesses is the first step towards a healthy life. A wise person always subjects himself to an impartial self-analysis. Therefore everyone should practice self-criticism in a mood of humility and find out his limitations as well as capabilities. Humility is a condition of wisdom; Tennyson calls it ‘mother of all virtues’. A wise man is the one who is ever conscious of the limitations of his mind and walks cautiously on the pathway to reality.
The Essay on The Purpose of Life Is a Life of Purpose
Throughout my life, I have persevered through much pain and misfortune; however, instead of using my experiences as reasons for a life of retribution and reparations, I used these tragedies as motivation to making other people’s lives better. Growing up I witnessed my grandmother assist anybody she saw struggling or needed help. During the 17 years she was a part of my life, I watched her nurse ...
For a successful life, we also need to have a purpose in life. If we have a purpose in life it means we have everything. Everyone has a unique life mission that needs to be recognized. The dream of what might be is more important than the record of what has been. The way to get to your purpose is to focus on what you want to be and consider the values and principles upon which your character and contributions are based. If you enjoy doing some activity, if you are good at something, if you are interested in solving a problem or if you have a dream to reach some heights, you are on your way to establishing your purpose in life.
It is really important to realize that to gain something substantial in life, some sort of work, struggle and action is required. The number of people who complain about being ‘bored’ because ‘there is nothing to do’ is horrifying. All that we need to do is to get out of our cocoons and have a look around ourselves- there is so much to do. The need is to take the initiative and gradually we would certainly be able to get closer to what we want from life. One small goal accomplished in the beginning will lead to a feeling of triumph and before the enthusiasm lightens and boredom sets in, struggle to achieve the next mission begins. Targets, aims and plans are the constituents that are missing from our lives and that can help us take a step forward to a successful life.
Life is what you make of it. While we stay ensconced in our cozy little shells, leading a meaningless and shallow existence, perpetually complaining about the ‘unfairness of life’, we deprive ourselves of the true joys of life. You cry and complain and people will sympathize. If you carry it on too long, they’ll simply shrug their shoulders indifferently and move on, leaving you all the more alone and miserable. It is important to realize that in this ever-changing world, our very survival becomes threatened as it’s very difficult to withstand the winds of life. Our continued existence depends on looking at facts in the face, weigh them in the balance and at last develop a reasoned optimism, which is a source of never failing strength and inspiration.
The Essay on Life – Purpose
Life is a gift. It is an honor, a spark, an excitement. We all have a world of our own. Albert Camus, once said, “You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life” (Camus, 1946). Life is about living to your fullest abilities. Why waste our time looking for the meaning of each breath we take? Each ...
