When it is dark in your room what is the first thing that comes to mind? Turn on the light. Well that wasn’t the case before the light bulb was invented. People would have to go light a candle and sit close to it to be able to see. But thanks to Thomas Edison this is possible.
The inventor of the light bulb was Thomas Alva Edison. He was born on February 11, 1847 in Milan Ohio. He was a great inventor; he invented many great things like the phonograph and the motion picture camera. But the best invention I think he made was the incandescent light bulb.
The light bulb is used for a lot of everyday things now like in cars, homes, on the road, in factories, and stores. The light bulb is a great way to see when it is dark out and there is no light. When the light bulb was first invented it was only used in factories and big areas. Now it is used pretty much every were and is a daily necessity.
The light bulb at the time was a very simple object. It had a filament that was heated by an electrical current. The filament acted like a conductor and let the electrical current run through. The current when it passed through it heated the filament making it glow a bright yellow. The only problem was the light would only last about 1,500 hours. Now today the CFLs can last up to 50,000 hours.
The light bulb has be changed, remade, and also has been added on to over the many years. Thomas Edison spent many hours making it and I hope he knows that it was well worth the time. If he could only see it today I think he would be very proud and amazed with what we have do with it. All these reasons are why I picked the light bulb as the best American invention ever.
