Walking into Holmes Student Center for a presentation by Miller Brewing Company, I had no clue what to expect. As I took a seat towards the front, I notice that there were not many people there. I planned to listen for appreciation, so I could learn what the speaker was trying to teach us. The first thing I notice about the speaker as he walked into the auditorium was that his forehead was sweating. He was younger man, wearing a tan business polo shirt with a dark tie, and black dress pants. I also observed that he had a wedding ring on his finger.
Walking up very causally he flashed the small crowd a big smile. In a light-hearted manner, he explained that he had trouble finding the place and need a few minutes to set up. The speaker took about five minutes to set up his presentation and when he began he introduced himself as Tim O’Connor. He said that he was thirty-four years old and had been working for MBL for about nine years. Describing what he does at Miller, he told a few jokes about how he likes to give presentations because it lets him out of the office. He also made light of the fact he looks young for someone his age and people mock him all the time. Unlike most presentations, Tim talked to us like re-al people. His word choice and tone made him very likeable.
He used a power point presentation during his speech, which he claimed was not his (it was really cheesy).
Though his entire presentation, he talked about how fun and exciting it is to work at Miller Brewing Company. I made a lot of inferences about Tim during his presentation. While he never did say, I think he was married because he did wear a wedding ring on his left hand. When he first walked in, I thought he was inexperienced due to his young appearance and lack of preparation. During his speech, Tim turned out to be very professional.
The Essay on Halfway There Plane Made People
Halfway There People. Droves of them, hustling off to their appointed gates with seventeen suitcases strapped to themselves like pack mules. All scowling, furrowing their brows. Hoping to get to where they want to go, and with all seventeen suitcases they came with. Me I only had two bags, but one of them was large enough to be a body bag. Beside me was my cousin, a tall 16-year old, the jock ...
His attire and briefcase made him look very qualified, but his responsible knowledge on the topic and excellent delivery helped prove him to be an expert. He seemed to be a very upbeat guy who had a true sense of humor. I could tell that he liked the jokes that he was telling and they where not simply repeated. His continued use of words like “cool” and other slang became obvious that he was trying to make us relate to him. The only bias that I could recognize was that I thought he was a rookie because of his young looks. I have to admit that he was very likeable and fun to listen to. Tim used a categorical speech design.
I believe the speech design was effective because of the different categories that he expanded on. One main idea expressed was their values in action and products the company makes. He told us where Miller Brewing Company is located throughout the country. He told us about the various charities MBC contributes to. Finally, Tim talked about the current opportunities and internships for his company. I thought the speech design worked perfect.
Tim told us about the company to make it interesting and then the positions available for MBL. He successfully lured us in with the body of his speech that led to his main point, selling his company to us. I could not think of a better speech design for the situation. Some good supporting materials was the map he showed us of where MBC is located throughout the country. This was helpful because we could see that they had offices all over the world where we could go for an internship. Another supporting material was the amount of money and list of the charities they contribute towards, such as the AIDS Foundation. This effectively proved Miller Brewing Company to be a charitable business.
At first, I did not give the speaker high credibility because he was late and not well prepared. Once he began to speak, he started proving himself as a creditable speaker. His facts seemed to be well researched and he did cite sources. His speech was not only interesting but also well organized. While Tim seemed to be slightly nervous he hid it very well and delivered and excellent speech to prove himself as a creditable speaker. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to his informative speech on Miller Brewing Company.
The Essay on Greatest Speeches of All Time – Franklin Roosevelt’s Speech
In his first paragraph, Roosevelt states that he is certain that his fellow Americans expect he will address them with honesty and a decision which the people will push forward. He also states that this is the distinguished time to speak the truth. That Americans should not shrink from honestly facing conditions in their country today. America will endure as it has endured and will revive and ...
