Living Abroad?!
Ever thought about living abroad? If so, here is some information on three differences between living in Holland and living in the United States ,beside the obvious language difference. The first difference is that the United States are a lot bigger than Holland. The second difference is the school system and the third difference is that the way people should behave is slightly different.
The first difference would be that the United States are a lot bigger than Holland. That may seem a little obvious, but that also means that things are further apart, so this means that people in the United States have other ways of transportation than the people in holland. In Holland people usually ride their bikes to go somewhere, if it is close by. In the US, people tend to go places by car, also if they are near to their homes. because the distances are a lot greater, the schools have to be organized differently.
The second difference is the high school system. In Holland middelbare school (high school) is divided into three levels a student can go to: VMBO, HAVO and VWO. VMBO is the level a student usually goes to when they are better working with their hands. VWO is the level a student often goes to when they are better at thinking, and HAVO is a kind of in between. In the US, there are no separate levels. for each subject, you can choose per subject what level you want, within certain areas of subjects, like social studies, science, art and math. for each of those areas you have to have a certain amount of credits. you earn credits by passing a course. a year long course is worth one credit. at school your behavior also formed, and there are some slight differences there.
The Essay on Debate Against School Uniforms
Have you ever played Wheres Waldo? By issuing students school uniforms, finding a problem child would be a lot like playing that game in a real life situation. Just like any other argument you will have your pros and cons of the idea, but in my opinion and many others, the cons highly outweigh the pros of wearing school uniforms. Many intelligent individuals will lose their motivation to excel and ...
The third and final difference is the social etiquette, the way people think is acceptable to behave. One of the main differences is that in the US people are more polite. That may sound weird, but it is true. if people go to almost any store, the employees there will almost always greet that person friendly, and ask “how you are doing”. In Holland, storekeepers will just say hi. another thing is that in the US it is considered normal to say “thank you” for the most simple things. if children clean up after dinner, the parents say :” thank you for cleaning up the dishes”, while in holland it is considered the children’s task to clean up after dinner.
so to conclude, the three major differences between Holland and the US are that the US is bigger, the school systems are very different, and the social etiquette is different as well. These are only three differences of course, and if anyone want to know the others, they should go there and see for themselves!
