I am writing to encourage you to support health care reform for the following reasons: 1 in 2 Americans has a health condition that qualifies as a pre-existing condition like asthma and diabetes, ObamaCare does away with pre-existing conditions. Obamacare all so holds insurance companies accountable for rate increases by providing 2 new ways to keep your costs down: Rate Review, which states that every State, insurance companies are required to publicly justify their actions if they want to raise rates by 10 percent or more. The 80/20 rule states, if insurance companies don’t spend at least 80 percent of your premium dollar on medical care and quality improvements rather than advertising, overhead and bonuses for executives, they will have to provide you a rebate. In 2012, 8.5 million people received half a billion dollars in refunds (“Health Care That,” n.d.).
The new healthcare reform creates the health insurance Marketplace, which is a new way for individuals, families, and small businesses to get health coverage. Obamacare all so helps you understand the coverage you’re getting, you have the right to get an easy-to-understand summary about a health plan’s benefits and coverage. Insurance companies and group health plans must provide you with: A short, plain-language Summary of Benefits and Coverage (SBC) and a Uniform Glossary of terms used in health coverage and medical care. The new healthcare reform makes it illegal for health insurance companies to arbitrarily cancel your health insurance just because you get sick, in the past, if your insurance company found that you’d made a mistake on your insurance application, they could: take away your coverage, declare your policy invalid from the day it started or ask you to pay back any money they’ve already spent for your medical care.
The Essay on Health Insurance and Managed Care
There are a myriad of issues that concern current federal health policies. These new issues emerged from a number of health policy agendas. Several issues are emerging as of late due to the notion that health care is usually perceived as prelude to issues concerning physical health problems. Federal health policies range from mental illnesses and physical therapy issues. The four central issues ...
It’s now illegal for insurance companies to cancel your coverage simply because you made an honest mistake or left out information that has little bearing on your health (“Health Coverage,” n.d.).
Under the new Obamacare individuals have the right to choose the doctor they want from their health plan’s provider network. Individuals also can use an out-of-network emergency room without penalty. The new healthcare plan allows those under 26 to get insured under a parent’s plan, they can join, remain, or return to a parent’s plan even if they are married, not living with your parents, attending school, financially independent or even if they are eligible to enroll in your employer’s plan.
Under many health plans insurance carriers are required to cover certain preventive care services at no cost to you, however under the new Obamacare individuals may be eligible for free preventive screenings, like blood pressure and cholesterol tests, mammograms, colonoscopies, and more. This even includes coverage for vaccines and new preventive services for women. The health care law stops insurance companies from limiting yearly or lifetime coverage expenses for essential health benefits. Lifetime limits such as insurance companies cannot set a dollar limit on what they spend on essential health benefits for your care during the entire time you’re enrolled in that plan. As of January 1, 2014 insurance companies cannot set yearly dollar limits on essential health benefits. I would like to leave you with a story about a friend of mine whose son Spenser has Pierre Robin syndrome.
The Term Paper on Health Care Costs 2
There is a short history when it comes to health care this history does provide a small view of how the United States decided that it would make a simple choice for supply and demand, this was done through fee-for-service to managed care, for PPOs, as well as other insurers of health care which also included the federal government. Fee-for-service in the early 1900s was thought of as the norm. for ...
Pierre Robin syndrome is a congenital condition of facial abnormalities in humans. Spenser has had 25 surgeries at the young age of 5, countless days and hours in the hospital. Before Obamacare, Spenser would max out his insurance yearly limit by May or June almost every year. When Spensor turned 8 he had maxed out his lifetime limit of 1 million dollars. Under Obamacare kids like Spenser can get the treatment they need to live a normal and happy life, whereas before Spenser would have to wait sometime up to seven or eight months for treatment because it was May or June and he had already maxed out his health care plan.
Now Spenser and his parent do not have to worry about what time of the year it is when Spenser’s doctors say he is healthy enough for the next surgery they can schedule it. I implore you State Representative to take these short stated facts about the new healthcare reform plan standards and accountability and give it your full support when you go to vote. Obamacare will change the lives of over 47.9 million people in the United States (15.4% of the US population) who do not have health care coverage (“Right to Health Care,” 2014).
