If asked, almost all people would say that lying is morally wrong. However, majority of them lie to themselves and each other everyday, and most of them do that without any bad intention or being aware of what sort of problems lying possibly result in. Kornet (1997) states that “Incidentally, when researchers refer to lying, they don’t include the mindless pleasantries or polite equivocations we offer each other in passing, such as “I’m fine, thanks” or “No trouble at all.” An official lie actually misleads, deliberately conveying a false impression. So complimenting a friend’s awful haircut or telling a creditor that the check is in the mail both qualify.” Lying could be excused only if it became compulsory in order to save a life or prevent someone from hurt. I strongly believe that lying is not permissible for the following three reasons: lying harms the liar by selfdeception, it also harms those who are lied to, and there is always a way to tell the truth.
First problem that lying causes is that it is has negative consequences on the liar.Lying may seem a quick and easy way for solving problems but this is not true. Making up lies, instead of spending effort on dealing with the truth, results in damages in one’s life eventually. Lying is more than useless. It is harmful. Once a person choose lying to him/herself, instead of facing the truth, it will be more difficult for him/her to deal with the truth next time. Lying makes people less realistic, therefore, less efficient in life. According to Russel ( ) “When we lie, we end up feeling like a liar, and we carry around the guilt (consciously or not) of the lie we told. Then we have to expend even more energy remembering the lie so we can keep it up and not get caught later. Ah what a tangled web we weave. Our life would be much simpler if we simply told the truth. Maybe we’d have some difficulties at the beginning as we learned this new method of communication, but so many problems would be averted along the way” she also adds that ” It may look, on the outside, like our relationships and life are running smoothly, but if it is all resting on a net of lies, then at some point that net will not support the whole fabrication. Then it is much harder to deal with the truth coming out after you camouflaged it for years… What started out as a “small lie”, after years (or months) or being supported, turns out to be a major breach in the communicaton between two beings.”

Another reason that makes lying unacceptable, and unreasonable is its negative effects on people who are lied to. It is a great responsibility, even risk to take to tell people lies and misleading them. Moreover, no matter if the misleading done on malicious or a good purpose, it might be counted as crime up to its results. Lying may have drammatic consequences. “Often times in the “dating scene”, someone will say “small lies” to make themselves look good, yet later when the truth behind those lies becomes obvious, the other person loses confidence and trust in you. After all, if you’ve lied once, what else are you or could you be lying about? ” Russel says. “We are generally harmed when we are deceived because we cannot effectively pursue our ends and interests if we act on the basis of false beliefs. Of course, someone could be deceived about matters that are not relevant to any of her concerns or decisions. I am not harmed if someone deceives me about the economic situation of Ethiopia in the seventeenth century. However, ordinarily,
when we lie or attempt to deceive others, we do so in order to influence their attitudes or behavior. Thus, generally, when we deceive others, we deceive them about matters of interest and concern to them and we try to influence them to do things (or have attitudes) that they would not do (or have) if they were not deceived, and ordinarily we harm them.
The Essay on Lie and Man Deciphers Truth
As a society, we have become so accustomed to metaphors and empty truths that we absent-mindedly accept them. But if society is told a lie and believes it, does that turn the lie into the truth? For example, in the beginning of the human’s reign on this planet, humans thought the earth was flat only to be proven that the earth was in fact round. But if ordinary humans were told that the ...
Last but not least, lying is never the only way to solve a certain problem or making something better. Marry T. Russel says that “To have harmonious relationships, they must be based on love and openness. And how can we be open when we are hiding lies? It makes our life be a maze of complications. Want to have a peaceful life? Be honest with yourself and others. Be aware of the small untruths that you tell; be aware of the truths you even hide from yourself. Many times the things we hide are the very things that would set us free. Our ego mistakenly believes that it is doing us a favor by hiding the truth, when love and openness are the key to attaining inner peace, not pretense. We can choose to live a life of pretension and “half-truths”. Or we can choose to be conscious of our words, of our feelings, or our inner knowledge and truth. We can become aware of our innermost feelings and thoughts — respecting whatever is true for us, at that moment.
When we live live mindfully and consciously, we live our life based on a foundation of respect: respect for ourselves and respect for others. And respect entails trusting someone enough to tell them “our truth” — and do it with love.” The philosopher Immanuel Kant said that lying was always morally wrong. He argued that all persons are born with an “intrinsic worth” that he called human dignity. This dignity derives from the fact that humans are uniquely rational agents, capable of freely making their own decisions, setting their own goals, and guiding their conduct by reason. To be human, said Kant, is to have the rational power of free choice; to be ethical, he continued, is to respect that power in oneself and others.
In conclusion, even when we can succeed in hiding our lies, telling lies greatly complicates our lives—the price of maintaining deception and the pretense of not having lied can be great. We need to be on guard and not let our dishonesty slip out. Sometimes we need to suppress our spontaneous emotional reactions to events in order for us to maintain the pretense of not having lied. Because lying is often imprudent as well as morally wrong, it frequently involves weakness of will. People often lie against their better moral and prudential judgment because it is easier in the short run and avoids immediate
