All of the characters in the drama Macbeth, by William Shakespeare, had very commanding roles. They were all essential to the turnout at the end of the drama, each having their own reason. Not only the main characters had a large impact on the reader, but the supporting characters had a large impact, too.
Duncan, the King of Scotland, Banquo, Macbeth’s friend, the future telling witches, and Macduff are included with these characters.
Duncan was the King of Scotland. With two sons at his side, Malcolm and Donalbain, he was a very sufficient king. A “perfect king” as some had said. He was described as a very strong leader. One who knows his limits; when to punish and when to give credit. Up until his beheading, by the psychopathic Macbeth, he was always looked up to by the people of Scotland. When the Thane of Cawdor was accused of treason, the king showed his disciplining side with his hanging. Shortly after that, he showed his rewarding side by rewarding Macbeth with the title of Thane of Cawdor for his great performance in the war.
Banquo may have thought of himself as being Macbeth’s “successor” as he may have said. It always seemed as if they were competing, but Macbeth always seemed to win at everything. Banquo was always a step behind Macbeth, especially during the war. When Macbeth and Banquo first met the three witches, Banquo’s future was very derogatory compared to Macbeth’s.
Macbeth’s future was bright with the title of king ahead of him. Banquo was told that he was going to die and one of his sons would become king. Obviously, Macbeth’s future was better than Banquo’s. That is just another example of Banquo’s life being slightly lesser in value than Macbeth’s.
The Essay on Bloody Macbeth Banquo King Murder

On the other hand, the three witches appear with Hecate, and plan to show Macbeth some magic that will lead him to his own destruction. Act 3 also ...
The three witches had a huge impact on many of the characters’ lives. They had numerous supernatural powers that were totally unexplainable. The witches were able to transform themselves into other life forms, tell the future, make themselves disappear, and even control mother nature. When Macbeth and Banquo went to visit the three witches, Macbeth was greeted in a very odd way, “‘All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Glamis!’ ‘All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee thane of Cawdor!’ ‘All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be King hereafter!'”(Shakespeare, 6).
That was one of the many fortunes that had been told to Macbeth. They knew that he was going to be king, one way or another.
Macduff changed the total outcome of Macbeth’s life. Macbeth was told by the itches, after he had become king, that he was not to be hurt by any man born “by woman”. So Macbeth fought against the worriors outside o his castle thinking that he was not going to be hurt, almost as if he was made of steel. To Macbeth’ surprise, he was then told something about Macduff. “Tell thee, Macduff was from his mother’s womb untimely ripped.” (Shakespeare, 91).
Macduff moved on to behead Macbeth and even moved on to give it as a “gift” to the new king of Scotland.
Many characters in this drama played a very important role. They all cause much pain and suffering for all. Not just the murdered, but also others who have lost their family.
