I take every opportunity to continue my professional growth to gain knowledge about child development and early childhood to ensure I’ll be the best professional I can be. I do this by networking with other professionals, reading reputable and current articles, and attending training courses. I seek out opportunities where I can assist my colleagues in curriculum planning and classroom management. I avoid gossiping and toxic stress at all cost.

I chose to become a preschool teacher after my son finished his PreK program. I was homeschooling my 3 year old daughter in preschool and was getting accolades from friends and family. They would often tell me I should become a preschool teacher. As my son was finishing up his PreK program the teachers announced their retirement. As part of my CDA requirements I needed to spend time in a classroom so I began volunteering in my daughters PreK class.

I enjoyed being encouraged to be creative and playful in daily activities and have a substantial input in the classroom curriculum and schedule. I really liked using games, storytelling, and other activities to help children develop language and vocabulary, improve social skills, and learn basic science and math concepts. The highlights of my days volunteering was when I saw a child’s eyes light up when they learn/try something new.
When they suddenly were able to make the letters in their name, or do something they weren’t previously able to do, I got as excited as they did. When the children were lined up waiting to come into class, and then run in and give me a hug, it warmed my heart. I knew it was exactly the career choice I wanted to pursue.
