Q : Man’s careless attitude is the main cause for the destruction of the environment. Discuss.
It is not an unknown fact that a healthy and clean environment is a great asset to mankind. The environment plays an integral role in human life as it is a vessel for underpinnings of life itself. Man takes and harvests from the environment but do we give back? The answer is a resounding no. In my opinion, I strongly agree that man’s careless attitude is the main cause for the destruction of the environment. In this essay, I will discuss how man’s careless attitude affects the environment and also solutions to overcome it.
A careless attitude lights a spark for the degeneration of the environment because man may be taking the environment for granted. In the footsteps of development, man is constantly garnering resources from the environment, namely air, water and earth. Forests and mountains gave way for the thirst of modern infrastructure. Building of dams also cause great impact on the balance of ecosystem. Careless men are thus adding strain and causing wreckage to the environment without taking a step back. A careless attitude brings about lack of concern and awareness for the warnings of environment. Man may not realize that one day these resources they gain from the environment will one day be used up. Thus, I would say a careless attitude of man by extravagance plants a time bomb in the environment.
Secondly, man’s careless attitude may lead to severe degrees of pollution, hence destruction of the environment. Man could race for development opportunities but would halt when asked to be responsible to conserve the environment. They could be holding the thought, ‘No one else is doing it, so why should i?’ and this portrays a careless trait. Technological progress has accumulated pollutants and hazards to the air, earth and water pollution. With these hazards improperly disposed, coupled by the lack of proactive in man to conserve, it may pose tremendous threat to the environment. Man may be indulging in the success of development but the environment has paid for its cost.
The Essay on How do social roles and the environment affect behavior, attitudes and beliefs
Our roles in social institutions and our various environments have a huge influence on our behaviours, attitudes and beliefs. When placed in an extreme environment, individuals usually begin to stress and feel unsafe. When assigned to authoritative roles, indivuals in toxic environments tend to act aggressive and arbitrarily in order to maintain control and avoid any form of harm directed at them. ...
Last but not least, I would suggest a few solutions to tackle the crux of careless attitude in protecting the environment. Man could start small by inculcating the recycling culture in households and organizations. Moreover, man must move out to the public at large through community outreach and awareness campaigns to impart environmental awareness. For instance, the ‘Say no to Plastic Bags’ campaign is a good platform to diminish careless attitude towards environment preserving and conserving. On the global scale, stricter law enforcement and reducing carbon emission should be implemented to fight the degeneration of the environment. For example, Carbon Room has taken initiative to bring efficiency out of energy using industries although it is costly.
While man is the greatest predator and threat to the environment, the ultimate loser in this battle is man himself. This reinforces the need for man to take a step back and recognize their careless attitude towards the environment. Concerted effects of individuals, the community and country is essential to combat this vice of carelessness. I am still convinced that man’s carelessness is the main factor for environmental destruction. Hence, man must make the first step and start caring for the environment.
